Jokes aside for a minute, this clown is making it really hard to root for this team. At a time when people are getting their meals from food pantries and losing health insurance this guy has the balls to go out there and bitch about the tax free loan he got to build his stadium. Dude gets a stadium the average family can’t afford to go to with a giant property tax break and lists it as a debt. He can fuck right off with that nonsense
by the way - coffee is on tap here again so if any one would like a cup please don't hesitate to swing on over to AA Manor, located at the end of Above Average Lane.
I'm so hoping—no, praying—that the owners-players 563rd showdown breaks the whole system. Praying? Did I say praying? No, I'm past that. I'm to the point of sacrificing small animals.
As some of you guys noted, the Yankees, as we knew them, died years ago. My big hope is that MLB breaks and they are officially gone. Baseball will remain, and somebody will still be playing ball in the most recent stadium we taxpayers gave these moral idiots.
Also, I just can't get over that "I don't want to get into it" part of Hal's statement.
"I don't want to get into it...but yes, you discovered that I'm lying through my teeth."
I say this to my wife, whenever I arrive home at three in the morning, stinking of cheap bourbon, with lipstick on my collar and a hickey on my neck: "I don't want to get into it."
What did Elvis Costello write about a "deep dark truthful mirror"? Take a look, Hal.
It is possible that, as Hal's comments are creating a lot of backlash throughout the blogesphere, some of it might filter up to him.
Up until now he has been mostly impervious but as Mel Brooks once pointed out, "The peasants are revolting." There's an undercurrent of dissatisfaction with hubris and greed that grows everyday. Or did he fail to note the recent mayoral election?
If we are to be distracted with bread and circuses the circus better be fucking good and not just a clown show.
Another quote from the story: “Nobody spends more money, I don’t believe, on player development, scouting, performance science. These all start to add up.”
If you are spending the most on player development, why does the team get quantifiably worse in fundamentals each year, Hal?
According to Forbes magazine (the rich man's newsletter), the Yankees have a net operating LOSS of $57 million. https://www.forbes.com/sites/justinteitelbaum/2025/03/26/baseballs-most-valuable-teams-2025/
Now, the article is from March 2025, so I would assume it was talking about their 2024 finances. But still ....
You know what that means, right? The New York Yankees are a FUCKING TAX SHELTER!!!
Yes, that's right. They've finally done it! They have overtaken long term tax shelters like the K.C. Royals. Hell, the New York Yankees are now the NEW KANSAS CITY ROYALS! Champions of tax avoidance strategy! A beacon of heroic accounting practice! WHOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The operating loss of 57 mill, of course, is not really an operating loss, I'm sure. It exists merely on paper. I'm sure they actually had a net positive cash flow. But it does mean that they paid zero income taxes. And the negative income helped offset the positive income for all of their owners. In other words, a fucking tax shelter!
Pay no attention to HAL's poor mouthing. That's just publicity, p.r. It's obvious that he likes the fact that the ball club has a "net operating loss". If he didn't like it, he'd fire everybody and get better management, right?
I agree, Hammer. There is no possible way that the 2024 Yankees could make even the money that they claimed OVER their expenses, and still lose $57 mill. Simply no way. This is a disgraceful, blatant lie, and an insult to the fans he expects to believe this.

ReplyDelete"The thing is, when you're very rich and have done absolutely nothing to earn it? They sometimes make you pay a little in taxes. Crazy!"

DeleteYes, Hal. In 2025 The Yankees made 728 Million in profit and after costs made over 400 million and you keep selling your crap!
ReplyDelete100 million here and 100 there. Pretty soon we are talking about real money.
