Grish takes the money and stays

Trent Grisham has accepted the Yankees' $22 million qualifying offer.

A miscalculation by the brain trust?

  1. Maybe you meant to say that the BrianTrost made the miscalculation . . .

    Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

  2. There is no imagination going into the creation of this team, no serious intuition, no good baseball experience and very little intelligence. Money will only get you so far

  3. This one isn't tough to figure this one out. Cashman loves a one year deal. The number's manageable. And I get why Grisham accepted. He wasn't getting $22mil AAV on the open market. He'd get more years, for more overall money, but not at that annual rate. So he really is betting on himself, and has a pretty good cushion if that's a bad bet. Hit next year too, he'll get a much higher multi-year deal next year starting in 2027 (assuming there's mlb baseball). If he doesn't hit, he's got $22mil and will still get some offers.
Doesn't do much for Yankees' prospects, in every sense of the word, in 2026.

  4. I guess it depends on how much the allow themselves to be limited by the expenditure. If it's not at all (fat chance) then it's a severe overpay for a fourth OF but OK.

If it's instead of Belly or Tucker then it is horrible.

  8. Seems par for the course. Have the contracts expire when the shutdown occurs.

Not a bad approach, as long as HAL is not the owner and Ca$hole is not the GM when they exit the shutdown.

Of course, that's not what they'll do.

    Because, HAL.

  10. It's hard to find fault with Grish's decision. What's left of $22 million after taxes, agent commission, and such? Probably more money than I would make in 5 or 6 lifetimes.

So it takes 40 years of work by a semi-normal person to equal what this guy will pocket in 2026.If he's injured, if his career ends, he's still sitting pretty (unless he can't stifle the impulse to spend foolishly).

Good decision for the Grisham family.

Is it good for the Yankees? Well, they will in '26 pay Judge, Stanton, and Cole combined a total of $100 million. $22M seems like a good deal, even if we hate Hal and Brian.

    1. Probably more money than most of us will make in about 60 lifetimes. I think it'll be about 14 mill after all is said and done.

You know semi-normal people who make 14 mill over 40 years? That's about 350K per year. I gotta start hanging out with you, man!

  11. Is Grisham eligible to trade? Not that anyone will pick up his 22 million from us.

  12. He is not eligible to be traded until June 15. I didn't know that until I saw it, I think in the Post.

But here is where we differ about these goings-on. I think Cashman wanted Grisham to accept & was genuinely relieved & overjoyed that Grisham accepted. If Grisham had rejected, I still think Cashman makes an offer to re-sign the guy. How much? Who knows but probably in the neighborhood of 8 yrs 120 mill. So from Cashman's standpoint, he's saved HAL 100 mill. They're partyin' over there at Yankee Stadium right now. White Castle hamburgers, french fries & Martinelli cider.
