Excitement brews to fever pitch as Yanks and Mets battle for control of France

By the dormant dulcimer derriere of Orestes Destrade, wake me when this one is over.

Apparently, the Yanks and Mets are going eyeball to eyeball - mana-v-mana, Cash v Stearns, Clay v Liston, Depp v Heard, Noem v Minnesota, Melania v comfortable shoes - in a bidding war over the services of Ty France.

That's right. Ty France.

Not gonna lie: Dunno who to root for.

Ty France?

Plays 1B. Good fielder. Hits RH. Age 31. No power. Puts the ball in play. Won a Gold Glove last year. Has played for five different organizations.

The Mets want him.

Are we supposed to have opinions on this?

Well, okay, here goes. If we sign Ty France, we'll have to keep him. That will be one less opening for a position, and one less competition in camp. It will mean less money to spend on a bullpen piece, less to spend on whatever spring injury threatens to derail the season.

Ty France...

Pass.

  1. Maybe rather see him than a second tour of Goldsmith (who I liked but became part of the black hole in the lineup).

  2. For all those arguments put forth, that's exactly the reason they would sign him...

  3. I surely wish they wouldn't spend money on these rejects. Maybe if we had less garbage around, we'd have a real direction. Cashman loves these dumpster dive finds.

  4. Hey, you know that Cashman is saying that Trent Grisham is a bargain at 22 mil? I believe that he's telling the truth (as he knows it). It's not a publicity stunt. He really does believe that Grisham is a bargain. So it's true that he really did want Grisham back. He did not make a "mistake" in making that qualifying offer. The plan all along was to run it back.

On the other hand, if you think about it, it was Grisham who made the mistake by accepting the qualifying offer. Because Cashman would have surely paid more for him after a little negotiation. Wonder what Grisham might have got from Cashman. Maybe 25 mil? Maybe 27 mil? I would think at least a couple more, maybe 24 mil. Maybe his agent told him that but Grisham said, hey what's an extra two mil? I'll just sign right fucking now and have a little peace of mind.

  5. What I would have done is said goodbye to both Grisham and Bellinger. Then signed Tatsuya Imai. The Ryan Weathers trade, I would have done the same thing, as I think it's a pretty decent trade. I would have signed Austin Hayes to play LF. Jasson Dominguez would start in CF/DH. I would bring up Spencer Jones to play LF/CF/DH.

Then I'd look for bullpen help. I would've passed on Angel Chivilli - I'd want somebody better.

At some point this year, at the latest by the All Star break, I'm bringing up Rodriguez & Lagrange. They'd be long relievers and spot starters.

Simple, eh? None of this dumpster diving. No spending ridiculous money on dumpster dive material or mediocrity that will turn into millstones. Developing the kids right fucking now. The payroll decreasing by a lot. HAL should like it, eh? Nah, never, never, never, no can do. Despite all the bluster and crying about too high a payroll, they were going to increase it all along. That's what they do, whilst bringing in mediocrity and dumpster dives.

  6. Of course, Austin Hays is already gone, been signed by someone recently.

Yardbarker has two potential trade pickups: Ryan Jeffers, a righty catcher and Jalen Beeks, a lefty reliever. Both would be good additions. But what would it take to get them?

I'd be looking to trade Jazz Chisholm, Austin Wells, Anthony Volpe, Ryan McMahon.

I don't know what the point was of bringing in McMahon. He's just more garbage, dead weight that they have to unload.

If they hadn't given up Caleb Durbin in that trade with the Brewers, they could unload Chisholm for futures and Durbin would slide right in to 2B.

Anthony Volpe is a lost cause. Nobody will want him because he's injured.

They should trade Wells and get a righty hitting catcher. I can live with Rice and Escarra as the lefty catchers and carry three catchers.

  7. But they'll never trade Wells. He'll either walk away when he turns free agent or they re-sign him for a millstone contract. Because he's a .200 hitter with some pop and Cashman loves mediocrity.

  8. It's just exhausting. Dumpster diving is a difficult sport to watch, especially when you're watching a gold medalist like Cashola.

  9. If this is the Battle for France, our general is Brian Maginot.

  10. I think you're almost completely spot on, Hammer. I would've brought back Bellinger, which would have still left one outfield spot and DH for Spencer and The Martian to fight over.

I also would have signed Imai, and brought up T.J. Rumfield, at long last. And yes, bullpen arms!

  11. Thing is, Hal & Pal don't even understand the entertainment aspect of this business they have been in all their lives. They don't get the fans' thrill at seeing some kid start to make it, and having been there from the start. They don't get what it means to really put a team together, like a craftsman making a fine watch.

All Hal, a man who has never wanted for a single, material thing in his life can talk about is...the fact that the Yankees have to pay taxes. And all Cashman, someone who has been handed things his whole life, thanks mainly to his horse-trading daddy, can think of it...how to please Hal.

    Wretched.

    1. Wretched indeed, but pretty much the truth. SAD, as some asshole once tweeted.
