I can be a little harsh on outfielders, thanks to DiMaggio. He said a lot of so-called great catches would not have needed to be so dramatic if the outfielder had taken a better route to the ball and got a better jump.
Over time, I've noticed that is true. And sadly, if Dominguez had been a bit better of an outfielder, that slam into the wall would not have happened.
That's something that never comes up when noting any deficiencies in a player's defense. I think even an acceptable lack of skill can be dangerous for the player. Like with Jasson.
The Martian made a very nice play against the wall and hung on for the out. May have a concussion. Weathers has the flu, puking and crapping Suzyn says he lost 9 pounds.
I really don’t want want to dump on a young player, but a less clumsy outfielder, say Brett Gardner, would have put himself in position to catch that ball without having to smash into the wall. Now he’s down 4-6 weeks, minimum.

ReplyDeleteAll right, I apologize for doubting Weathers'...intestinal fortitude?
ReplyDeleteIt takes guts to change your mind like that, Hoss.
DeleteFact is, Weathers has never pitched more than 95 innings in any big league season,.
DeleteWhether Weathers will weather this illness is up in the air
We survived Bird, but Doval... Jesus H. Montero.
ReplyDeleteSo, The Martian out with concussion protocol. I assume that'll be okay. The bigger fear is the MRI on his left shoulder.
ReplyDeleteThuuuuuhuuhuuhuuh Yankees Win!!
ReplyDeleteThat’s the one second warble…
DeleteAnd this garbage pile keeps winning.
ReplyDeleteI have to watch that play another couple times. I don't see why he slammed into the wall with such force.
ReplyDeleteThought he misjudged the scoreboard…
DeleteI meant the advert screen
DeleteMichael Kay's sign-off? "All things going well for the Yanks."
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting that was what his grandfather telegraphed from the Titanic: "Just a little turbulence! All things going well!"
Can I start calling Doval "Bhopal"?
ReplyDeleteBecause he's a disaster.
I prefer Pineapple. Or maybe just Dole.
DeleteHe caught the ball. Last year it looked like making that catch was beyond him.
ReplyDelete"Bhopal" Doval?
ReplyDeleteGot certain ring to it, doesn't it?
DeleteDominguez to the IL with AC shoulder sprain.
