His personality, spark and emotional output were a bigger benefit than his versatility. It's not always about the stats. He was just a joy to have around, much like Thairo. The intangibles matter. Maybe not to the droids on Cashman's staff, but they matter. He was the quintessential "fan favorite" for good reason.

ReplyDeleteThe Yankees are six back on the loss side with only seven more games left to play. So even if they sweep the Rays, it won't be anywhere near enough. They're close to mathematic elimination for first place. It's hilarious that the Yankee website has something about not letting the Rays celebrate 1st place. What a bunch of horseshit!
ReplyDeleteI'll do some calculations at the end of the season for what I think are the probabilities for the Yankees winning the wild card round; the divisional round; the A.L.C.S.; and the World Series. But suffice it to say for now that these are going to be long, long odds.
ReplyDeleteJust as I thought, the Battlin' Bronx Bastards went to the desert and got their butts handed to 'em by the Dick-Bags. They never play well in that place. It was looking good in that last game for awhile, until suddenly the carriage turned into a pumpkin and the horses turned into mice.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Tampa series, this is going to be the beginning of the end of this season. Look for the Bastards to lose at least three out of four. Their only chance to win a game is because of the double dip.

ReplyDeleteI hope Cashman & Steinbrenner & company enjoy watching Tampa Bay celebrate winning the AL East at Yankee Stadium. And then next week watching Boston celebrate winning the AL Participation Award Series at Yankee Stadium. They should be so damned proud of what they’ve built.
