My fellow Sisyphusians, here we are...
Hell.
Another lost season. Another dead October. Another dropped boulder. Another dark winter ahead.
Because now we know that nothing will change.
Hal will remain atop his shit pile. Cashman will keep his preferred parking place. Boone will hold the dugout. Randy Levine will keep doing - um - whatever it is Randy Levine does. Count the money, I guess.
Giancarlo will soak in the jacuzzi. Cole will turn 37. Judge will reach 35.
Volpe will play 2B. The Martian still won't know how to catch a pop fly. A committee will occupy the DH. The YES men will applaud each move.
Other teams will unveil new stars. The Yankees will find a new Heliot Ramos. Tampa will run away with the AL East. Or maybe Boston. Or Toronto. Or even Baltimore. It won't matter.
In late July, the Yankees will trade packages of prospects, to the delight of the Gammonites, to chase another wild card.
The country will remain fractured. The coastlines will be underwater. The forests will be on fire. The wars will be continuing. The billionaires will be fuming about the lack of respect they receive, and A.I. will be getting tired of listening to our bullshit. Who knows? Maybe there won't even be baseball, at all.
But rest assured: Next year, right around now, I'll start a post with, "My fellow Sisyphusians..."
Because here we are.
Hell.

Did you close your post, E.D. With HELL or HAL ?

Same thing, AA. Same thing.
ReplyDeleteWell then - please give me a moment to try to redistribute the microplastics in my brain a little bit and I’ll consider all of these monumental revelations.
DeleteWe know the drill. Rinse/Repeat.
ReplyDelete2027. loads of stiffs, loads of wins, playoffs, embarrassment and the same old excuses.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees make it so easy to not give a shit these days. Must be nice to be so rich.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! And they're so rich, they don't give a shit either!
DeleteThe only thing to wonder is how long this masquerade can go on. How long can they pretend to ignore the elephant in the room? How long can they pretend that the naked emperor is fully clothed? The answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind....
ReplyDeleteThis was the worst Yankee defeat this year. Just devastating. It will be very difficult for the team to recover from this.
ReplyDeleteAny predictions on the World Series? I think Brewers in 6. But it'll be close. So definitely not a sure thing. If we're putting a percentage on it, 60% Brewers and 40% Rays. Tampa is a lot better team than the fucking Dodgers. If the Dodgers had made it to the finals, Tampa would've crushed them.
ReplyDeleteThe interesting thing will be if the Brewers pitching continues to hold up. Will they shut down the Rays, like they shut down the Dodgers? Even if the Brewers do give up some runs, will they score runs in bunches against the Rays pitching?
No matter what happens, we'll have a first time Champion. Ain't that sumthin'?
I think that's about right, Hammer.
DeleteI think Milwaukee has a slightly better starting lineup, but TB has a small edge on the bench. Milwaukee has the higher ace, but TB has the more starting depths, and the Brewers have an edge in the bullpen.
Both teams run, both hit for power, and both are good if not spectacular in the field. Both have very smart managers.
If pressed, I'd say Milwaukee in six, with the home field advantage, but things could easily turn. What is truly amazing is how statistically mediocre TB was in the AL, but how they compiled not only the best record but are now going to their third World Series in 19 seasons.
Funny how things work out when you have engaged players and smart people running the team.
As long as the cash register continues to chime, nothing will change
ReplyDeleteHey Hal did say he'd take a look at the offense from Top down 👀
ReplyDeleteKnock. Knock.
ReplyDeleteWho's there?
Hal Steinbrenner.
Hal Steinbrenner who?
Hal Steinbrenner who clearly doesn't give a crap about Yankee fans and is filled with hubris and actually hates the team and baseball. Who probably never had a catch with anyone and was clearly George's least favorite child.
That's not funny.
Tell me about it.
I hate them all so very very much.
