1. Former Yank Jake Bauers. No grudges here. Guy did right by us in 2023. (I remember a game-winning HR.) He was out of baseball, ready to bag groceries. Nice to see an expat succeed.
2. Former Yank Gary Sanchez. Seriously. He flopped in NY, after a grand unveiling. Still, no regrets. And who'd'a thought he'd have a ring, and Judge doesn't?
3. Fuck Tampa. Seriously. They love hating us more than they love their team. The stands were full of Brewers fans. I realize that, if the Rays won, it would hasten their collapse, as they systematically sell off their players. Still, it's nice to see them flounder. And Tropicana Field is terrible.
4. Milwaukee has never hurt us. To reopen a flesh wound, you must time-travel back to 1957, with Del Crandall, Lou Burdette and a 23-year-old Hank Aaron. Even I don't go back that far. (Also, Green Bay doesn't count.)
5. Milwaukee, the city. How can you hate on a town known for beer and sausage?
6. The Brewers' victory undercuts the owners' claim that a salary cap is necessary to restore competitive balance. What a load of crapola.
7. The Brewers won via fundamentals: Singles, bunts, baserunning, glovework - I half expected to see a hidden ball trick. Do the lords of baseball, as they sabotage their sport, realize how utterly boring it is to watch a game with 30 strikeouts? Yet they chase the three true outcomes.
8. Front Row Amy. First time I noticed the cleavage - (first batter, first inning, game one) - I figured she was some B-list scream queen, or a Kalshi's marketing answer to Sydney Sweeney. How refreshing to learn the truth: She's a true fan who has attended home games since 2007 and who scores each game by hand. Write this down: She's the greatest fan in American sports.
9. Brewers manager Pat Murphy is a Syracuse native, from a modest city neighborhood called Eastwood. That's the heartland, folks. Kids on bikes. Halloween decorations. Root for the Cuse.
10. The Dodgers didn't win. Neither did Boston. And the Mets sucked. Baby steps, eh?

Wait a second…..
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees failed to win again and baseball is done for the year and maybe even longer?
WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
I miss the hidden ball trick. And the Folly Floater. And the Swinging Bunt. And the Swinging Sixties. And the Swinging Blue Jeans. But, I digress.
ReplyDelete“Sometimes it is simply better to digress than to undress”
DeleteThe Honorable Ed Koch
CONGRATULATIONS, MILWAUKEE BREWERS!!! THE 2026 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!
ReplyDeleteThey didn't put up a 20 spot in the playoffs, but I'll take it! I guess playoff pitching is better than regular season pitching. And it's too bad that they couldn't sweep. I guess the fucking Tampa Rays are not as bad as they looked in the first three games. But again, I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteWe got to be reminded of what real baseball looks like, however brief it was. Now, I must trudge back to the Yankee Gulag, presided over by Hal and Brian. Boone is just another inmate, but he doesn't know it yet.
ReplyDeleteYes, but he's better compensated than the rest of us.
DeleteThere was a great comment by the broadcast crew (I think it was the tv crew - I was flippin' back and forth between the tv and radio broadcast) that Brewers skipper Pat Murphy said in August of this year that he wasn't sure about the Brewers, that they might be the same team that lost in the previous playoffs. Well, he might've been a little too close to the trees to see the forest. Because half way through the season, I knew the Brewers were going to win the World Series this year. I could feel it.
ReplyDeleteSo, for the last time this year, please allow me to put on my Christoph Colombo face and say: "I TOLD YOU SO!"
ReplyDeleteThey did it with no home runs, right? If they don't hit any homers, they win. LOL
ReplyDeleteDidn’t watch a single pitch.
ReplyDeleteChristian Yelich had his frickin' dogs on the field to celebrate the victory. Not his agent, not his escort, not his bookie. His dogs. Make all the jokes about Heartland Values you want, but as I hunker down waiting for another Chicago winter, all y'all were watching Pat Murphy manage the team and getting goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time not so long ago when Rizzo and Judge use to frolic in the field with their two Dachshunds-like little doggies . . .(sniffle, sniffle)
DeleteElephant in the Yankees boardroom.
ReplyDeleteJorge is bitch slapping the front office and Joba of all people is backing him up.
Keep it up guys. We need a mormon chorus (that means a lot of guys, not a lot of wives) of ex-yankees screaming this from the rooftops.
I think you mean "choir," Rufus. But I agree!
DeleteUnfortunately, none of us in the Tabernacle Choir are ex-Yankees, though some of us are Yankee fans.
DeleteMilwaukee hit 3 homers, the Brewers hit 1. And I watched a bunch of it. Liked some, was bored to death by a lot.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't resist jumping in here and sharing last night's classic post game interchange between Jake Bauers and Pat Murphy. Got to love them both and the Brew-crew's season: https://twitter.com/i/status/2115657612826227003
ReplyDeleteThat was a horseshit Yankees team with a horseshit owner, general manager and manager. Jake was too good for the Yankees.
DeleteCongratulations to Milwaukee for embarrassing the Dodgers and the Rays.
ReplyDelete# 4....Incorrect! They did hurt us. Or more specifically, injure us. The injury occured to Mickey Mantle in game 3 of the 1957 WS with Red Scoendienst as the perpetrator. Mantle dove back headfirst to second base on a pickoff attempt, and Schoendienst landed on top of Mantle's shoulder with his full weight. While no bones were broken, Mantle suffered shoulder and tendon damage that he later compared to having a "sack of cement" dropped on him. The injury altered Mantle's mechanics and permanently hindered his left-handed swing—contributing to a split where he batted .330 right-handed compared to .281 left-handed over his career.
