Long night, staying up to watch the scores. Scattered thoughts...
1. Elon Musk is the Stevie Cohen of politics.
2. Hal Steinbrenner is the Darlene Graham of owners.
3. Ken Paxton is the Gene Mauch of politicians.
4. If last night were a game, the GOP would have used a position player to pitch the 9th.
5. If Ryan McMahon is not traded, he might be impeached.
6. Holy crap! Rep. Mark Teixiera (R-Tx) is a thing.

Teixiera is a Trump supporter. He must have run in some non-urban white district.
ReplyDeleteHis district is R + 10. The result was Texiera by 10 points.
DeleteAccording to state demographic data, approximately 54% of the district’s roughly 767,000 residents are white, 34% are Hispanic and 5.3% are Black. The district covers nearly 6,300 square miles.
ReplyDeleteIn the 2024 presidential election, 60.2% of district voters supported President Donald Trump.
Chip Roy's district. Those people voted for Roy, so you can't expect much from those brainiacs.
ReplyDelete“ 2. Hal Steinbrenner is the Darlene Graham of owners” 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
ReplyDeleteThe only way Trump could have improved their numbers in TX is to drive through downtown Dallas in a convertible.
ReplyDeleteSpent the evening reading the NYT needle because I could drill down to any race I felt like following and no talking heads.
ReplyDeleteI believe Mr. Neal Young said it best, "I've seen the needle and the damage done."
Fave excerpt from coverage: "A White House insider told the Daily Mail that aides ordered platters of appetizers from the Cheesecake Factory in the “delusional” expectation that there’d be something to celebrate..."
ReplyDelete
DeleteThat's great. Those aides live in a bubble that separates them from the reality the rest of us see. It's reminds me of the bubble inside of which Hal, Cashman, and Boone all bounce around.
I bet the Cheesecake Factory got stiffed.
DeleteI wouldn't be waving any victory flags just yet. The real test will come in two years. Will the White House Clown step down on his own or will it take a second civil war? Plus, what will the Clown-in-Chief do during the next two years? Lots of scary stuff that could happen.
ReplyDeleteMark Teixeira, the guy who thought he wasn't paid to hit balls through holes. God help us.
ReplyDeleteAs long as we're talking election...
ReplyDeleteHere’s why North Carolina went blue...
I just had to look at how the citizens of two towns in North Carolina, voted. Mayberry and Hooterville.
Mr. Haney – Did not vote. Would have voted Republican and has already put in for a Presidential Pardon but he was too busy trying to offload his stock of bootleg “Make America Great” Hats and Freedom Straws.
Ralph – Democrat . Someone has to install those gender-neutral bathrooms.
Lisa Douglas -. Did not vote. Might have been because she’s not a citizen. Might have been because she thought election day was last Thursday because Mrs. Ziffel baked a blueberry/cherrypie and she always bakes a blueberry/cherry- pie on election day.
Mr. Douglas - Democrat . I’d tell you the reason but I couldn’t hear him over the playing of “Yankee Doodle” in the background. Something about farmers and America.
Mr. Drucker – Democrat. SWING VOTER. Normally votes Republican because he was afraid the store would go under if he had to pay himself $15 an hour. Done in by the tariffs.
Fred Ziffel - Democrat. SWING VOTER. Lifetime Republican. Lost his soybean crop to the tariff war with China.
Mr. Kimble – Voted Democratic. “ I was leaning towards voting Republican because I wants to cut govt. spending. Then again, they don’t really do that. Of course they could just reduce the number of government workers.. . Then I realized, wait a minute I’m a government worker.”
Eb - Democrat. SWING VOTER. Normally a Republican. Was very unhappy when he learned that he had to do ALL the chores after ICE arrested his co-workers.
Arnold Ziffel - Didn't vote. Didn’t care. Just in it for the mudslinging.
Mrs. Ziffel - Didn't vote.
Andy Taylor - Democrat. Because if he wasn’t it would break my heart.
Barney Fife – Republican. Because he’s big on overreacting to non-existent threats.
Helen Democrat but told Barney she voted Republican.
Floyd the Barber – Democrat SWING VOTER. Now that Lindsey Graham is dead those photos of the two of them can no longer be used as kompromat.
Aunt Bea – Democrat. Doesn’t like cheaters.
Otis - Would have voted Democrat but lost his voting rights due to jail time.
And of course the absentee voters…
Jed Clampett – Democrat. He knew he stands to lose some tax money to the revenuers. But what has been goin on in the country jes ain’t right.
Granny – Republican. Second Amendment voter plus she bears an uncanny resemblance to Jeff Sessions.
Jethro – Forgot to register.
Ellie May – I don’t know. Could have gone either way.
Gomer Pyle – Democrat. Former USMC. Left the service after he came out. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
Goober - Republican. You can’t fix stupid.
Aunt Bea is registered as "Unaffiliated" because she runs a very lucrative whore house in Mayberry and can't afford to alienate any of her clients.
DeleteArnold Ziffle wouldn't tear himself away from the cowboys and Indians movie on the TV.
DeleteRepublican demonization over DEI obviously didn't work. Without even mentioning the uniqueness of their candidates, Democrats elected the first black governor in GA, the first openly gay senator (NH), first Latina governor (TX), first Native American woman elected to the Senate (MN), first Muslim senator (MI),and the first Native American women elected governor (NM). Even Republican Byron Donalds became the first black governor in FL.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day to be an American! Unless, of course, you're a MAGA or white supremacist.
From Political Wire:
Dan Pfeiffer: “It was ten years in the making, but Donald Trump finally got the electoral ass-kicking that he deserved. Voters of all stripes from every region of the country rejected the President, his agenda, and his party.”
“2026 was not a normal midterm. It was bigger than 2018, 2010, 2006, and 1994. Democrats are on track to win the largest popular vote margin since 1974 — the first midterm after Watergate (which is fitting on many levels).”
“Democrats took the House and flipped the Senate. Republicans lost everywhere. Democrats flipped states that Trump won by more than 15 points and won districts that were never supposed to be competitive. We elected a Black woman governor of Georgia, a Latina in Texas. Democrats swept the statewide offices in Georgia and Texas and now have governing trifectas in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan.”
Correction! I meant Thelma Lou Democrat but told Barney she voted Republican.
ReplyDeleteUncle Joe SWING VOTER - The Shady Rest lost the Canadian snowbird business.
Here's what is really sobering: "38% of voters approved of Trump's performance and 62% disapproved, according to NBC's exit poll." (from yahoo.com)
ReplyDeleteAfter two fucking debacle presidential terms, almost 4 in 10 Americans think Jackass Trump is doing a great job. Think about that. If that don't make you worry....
Apparently, 4 in 10 American voters think that he's doing a great job. Let us look at Trump's greatest accomplishments so far: (1) started a war in Iran without Congressional approval, thereby destroying the Constitution (only Congress has the power to declare war); deliberately helped dictator Putin by agreeing to help finance Putin's Ukraine war through America purchasing Russian diesel fuel; sabotaged Ukraine's attempts to defend itself from a Russian land grab; threw dynamite on the Russia-Ukraine war to accelerate inflation; has thrown more dynamite on inflation by slapping tariffs on everything, including on our own neighbors and closest allies; exponentially increased income taxes on homeowners in New York, New Jersey, and California by eliminating the state & local tax deduction in computing federal income tax, essentially double taxing a large segment of the population therein; exponentially increased the federal deficit; destroyed American farmers and small businesses with his tariffs; destroyed and decimated our military with stupid policies; arrested and imprisoned American citizens for not walking around with their birth certificates, passports, naturalization certificates.
He has destroyed individual rights, the Bill of Rights, the entire Constitution. He has wiped his ass with our greatest national treasures. And 4 in 10 Americans like it. "So, Donald Jackass Trump, what are you gonna do next?" (Unfortunately, I don't think he's going to Disney Land.)
Did I mention Trump greatly weakened NATO and basically invited Putin to invade Ukraine, basically invited China to attack Taiwan and swallow it up, basically invited North Korea to attack South Korea, and encouraged Israel to attack Iran? And he says he deserves the Nobel Prize for Peace. Only in an alternate universe, because all I can see is that he's causing wars all over the place.
ReplyDeleteEvery blasted Republican Congressional member who lost. Serves them fucking right! They never tried to rein in Trump. They abdicated their power to him. This is what happens when the other branches of the federal government let a wanna-be-fascist-dictator do whatever he wants. Total fucking chaos. And it might get even worse, much worse.
ReplyDeleteJudas Priest, "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll":
The power mad freaks who are ruling the earth
Will show how little they think you're worth
With animal lust they'll devour your life
And slice your world to bits like a knife
If the man with the power
Can't keep it under control
Some heads are gonna roll
Some heads are gonna roll
Did I mention that Clown-in-Chief Trump has also tried to destroy Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid? And that he has completely destroyed the Veterans Administration? VA hospitals have become a joke. He's pulled the rug out from under our disabled veterans.
ReplyDeleteThe MAGA drive to eliminate waste and reduce federal spending was a fucking disaster. Elon Musk is a fucking walking disaster. They haven't reduced federal spending; they've exponentially increased it. They've decimated our national parks. They're destroying the environment everywhere. All to line their own fucking pockets.
They're allowing Artificial Intelligence to get completely out of control. Data centers are sucking up incredible amounts of electrical power and water. (I had no idea computers drink water.) Yet, they allow foreign adversaries and criminal networks to steal billions from us. It's so important to them to arrest and deport a blue collar illegal alien, but they allow North Korea to steal billions with a click of a button. They allow criminal gangs from all over the world to steal money from American citizens. All of this money is flowing out. Yet, the Clown-in-Chief and the jackass Republican Congress do nothing about it. They probably get a cut of it, by the way.
I cannot tell you all how much I love you right now. Everything I would have said has been said already. My favorite line of the past month may have been "PRETEND I'M ON THE BALLOT."
ReplyDeletemy flying fingers were trying to type "...how much I love you all right now..."
DeleteHere's my little contribution, in the Times on Monday. I did NOT want that headline—as I did not want the piece to be about any one candidate—but the click mongers wouldn't listen:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.nytimes.com/2026/11/02/opinion/trump-midterms-history.html
What a beautifully written and thoughtful piece. Thank you, Hoss.
DeleteAnd great comments here by everyone. BUT...you buried the lede:
ReplyDeleteBROOKLYN NOW CONTROLS BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS!
YEE-HA!
Of course, Jeffries and Schumer--those "moderate", "reasonable" Democrats--will fuck this up by being too timid. And moderate. And reasonable. Dems like them are the second-biggest impediment to the kind of progress and change most people want. But, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteAs great as all this is, we still need to keep our eyes on the center, especially if the Republicans wake up and move there too. But I agree, timidity is the last thing we need. There's an awful lot that needs fixing.
ReplyDeleteJust like Teixiera. Still trying to hit into the shift.
ReplyDeleteI loved him when he played for the Yanks. The picture of him running to hug Arod after the final out of the 2009 WS was the background on my computer for years. But in my house, republican Texas politicians get less respect than the contents of the cats litter box.
