The Bard of Minnesota: Carlos Gomez

A (slightly homoerotic) poem by youthful Twins outfielder Carlos Gomez, who speaks to his bat before every trip to the plate.

A boy and his bat

When I was 10 years old
Every time you see me at the plate
I smell it, I kiss it
I talk to my bat

I do it depending on the situation.
Sometimes I tell it,
'Come on, get a base hit now,
or I won't use you no more,
you have to get a base hit.'

When the bat does his thing
base hit
after that, I kiss it.

I love my bat.
I say sometimes,
'I love you, keep going.'

Welcome back, Shelley!

No, not the lyric poet!

Jeez! This is a Yankees blog, right?

Poetry? Sure, Scooter's musings were powerfully poetic, enduring and evocative, but the It Is High crew welcomes our pal Shelly Duncan back to the line-up.

Spikes up, dude!
