After fighting back all year and finally being named by Joe Torre as Yankee starting firstbaseman, golden-throated, Alabama-bred career minor-leaguer Andy Philips suddenly develops a neck injury and can't play the last two games?
Great. Just great. It cost us the game yesterday, when twinkle-toed, utility fill-in first-sacker Miggy the Capital of Egypt couldn't field a lazy nubber.
Did Andy sleep on the wrong side? Was his Windsor knot too tight? Or did she bite?
Ladies and gentlemen, are we greeting the new Carl Pavano?
Also: Congrats to "Big Melky" Cabrera for his 5 strikeout day!
Down in the Gulf Coast League, Li'l Melky -- that is, 20-year-old outfielder Melquesedic "Melky" Mesa --went 1-2, with two walks and 2 runs scored, and struck out just once. He's batting a crisp .159!
Pray for Andy's neck.
ReplyDeleteYou laugh, but prayer WORKS!
PLAYers, not PRAYers.
ReplyDeleteWe win because we spend the most money on PLAYers, not PRAYers.
We have the hardest hitting PLAYers, not PRAYers.
But how great would we be if we spent $200,000,000 on PRAYers?
ReplyDeleteWhat you all have missed in this diatribe about Andy the redneck is the debut of Will Nieves at first.
ReplyDeleteHow long before Torre declares him the everyday first baseman?
He can hit just as well as the Melky of the Gulf Coast league, and is a fan draw playing first with his catcher's mit(t).
So, if Andy loses his position to Will, I say: good work Andy. You can't stay healthy, you can sing for your supper.
We have Nieves. Plus, it will be easier for him to throw out guys at second from that spot.
