LETTER TO THE EDITOR

In today's Providence Journal-Bulletin

Looks to me like the construction worker s plan to curse the New York Yankees by planting hard-hitting David Ortiz s No. 34 jersey in their new stadium has backfired ( Yanks dig up Sox shirt from new stadium, sports, April 14). Instead of jinxing the Yanks, it s done all the damage to Ortiz: 0 for 17, 1 for 29, batting average .070. Who s gloating now?

Mark Twain said it best: When the human race has once acquired a superstition, nothing short of death is ever likely to remove it.
