It had all the trappings of a great Yankee victory -- the rookie coming of age against Boston's all-star closer, saving the season against our arch rival -- but John Sterling ran out of gas last night in his Win Warble.
He topped out at 6.43 seconds, and at age 60, there are questions about whether he can still bring the lungs to lead this team to a World Championship.
He's passed 7 seconds just once this season -- with Giambi's walk-off HR -- and it's starting to look as though a 6.00 is par for the course.
It's like watching a former great hitter come to the plate with a .220 average. It just hurts...
I think you have a point on this. Those were huge wins, and Sterling sounds like he wants to go longer but his voice just gives out.
ReplyDeletePerhaps John is the real voice of reason in all this.
ReplyDeleteIf he goes all-out for a split against the Red Sox before the All-Star break - when we're still 9 games behind the TFKAT (team formerly known as the) Devil Rays - then what does he do when we win one with playoff implications in September?
Or maybe he's just pacing himself for a long season. Kind of like Joba - keeping his voice on a "pitch count," so to speak. That way, he'll still be able to crank it up in the final weeks, and we won't have to worry about shutting him down.
I dunno. If you listen closely to the Saturday night call, John really ran out of gas. He wasn't pacing himself. He just didn't have it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he needs to grow a 'stache! That'll invigorate him!
ReplyDeleteWOw...
ReplyDeleteAnyone see what fat cocksucker Peter Abraham wrote about A-Rod's wife today?
Here's hoping the players team up and beat his fat, Rican ass...
Booo Lohud, Booooo !
