Hank Steinbrenner: Translated into English

Hank "Stubby" Steinbrenner yesterday discussed the the 2008 season, using the time-honored language and code words of his father.

Here is the translation:

HANK: “I’m not writing off this season."
TRANSLATION: "Kiss this season goodbye."

HANK: "No team I’ve ever seen in baseball has been decimated like this. It would kill any team.”
TRANSLATION: "Who would have thought the stockpiling of 36-year-old veterans could backfire."

HANK: "We’re going to win it next year."
TRANSLATION: "Did I say we should kiss this season goodbye?"

HANK: “If we need to add a top veteran pitcher, we’ll do that."
TRANSLATION: "Randy Johnson is available."

HANK: "We’ll do whatever we need to do."
TRANSLATION: "The price of tickets is going to go up."

HANK: "Next year we’ll be extremely dangerous."
TRANSLATION: "This year, we're extremely pathetic."

  1. Things are so dire, as soon as Mo gave up that blast last night, I went beddy-bye.

Imagine my surprise in the morning...
