The Serious Case for Signing... (gulp)... Nomar

I know what you're thinking: It seemed unspeakable last week. But news accounts say Cashman won't go full tilt for Mark Teixiera. Are we really leaving first base to Nick Swisher and his .219 average?

REASONS TO SIGN NOMAR

1. Piss off Redsocks.

2. Make Redsock fans feel really queasy.

3. Platoon at 1b with Swisher, who can't touch lefties (.197, only 6 HRs.)

4. Mia Hamm and Madonna work out together.

5. Assemble history's greatest infield, as measured by 1998 standards.

6. In 2006, he made only one error in nearly 600 innings at 1b.

7. No worries about overcrowded situation; he'll get injured.

8. Once jumped into Boston Harbor to rescue two drowning women.

9. He'll be 35, hungry for one last ring.

10. He's gotta hate Boston for what they did to him.

11. If he doesn't hate Boston, we'll make him hate Boston.

12. Last year, he hit .234 in 46 games, due to injuries. He's ripe for a comeback.

Unthinkable, a week ago. Now...?

  1. You hear that loud sucking sound? Its the sound of all the enjoyment I would have got out of this offseason after Cashman's bs comments about 1st base.

Cant we just have a secure Yankee fan only form of communication where Cash reassures us hes going to clone Derek Jeter and sign him for 300mil? I cant deal with these negotiation quotes.

This Nomar post adds unnecessary cruelty to this situation.

  2. I'm not surprised that Cashman is still forming a 35 + average age team......striving for 40+.

Cashman is behaving like the old republicans ( each with the requisite red tie) in Congress....living in and reacting to a world that no longer exists.

Carry on Cash....there are re-treads everywhere and, oddly enough, in baseball, each one seems to be more than 35 years old!

Fishing in this free agent pond is like finding a diamond mine in your own back yard.

And the great thing is; the Yankees are the only team who wants these codgers.

Watching the Yankees in 2009 will be like watching an all star old timers game.
