Letter to the Editor: Home Run Taxes

Orlando Sentinel (Florida)
March 31, 2009

Dear Editor,

Congress is considering a bill to tax AIG executives at 90 percent because they misused taxpayer money. On that basis, many members of Congress and the administration should also be taxed at 90 percent (but let's make it a 110 percent tax rate, just to be sure they get the message).

Also, many pro sports franchises receive taxpayer money for their arenas and stadiums. So we should take the next step and tax team owners and pro athletes at 90 percent if they don't deliver value to the taxpayer by making the playoffs. We should be able to recover $250 million from the New York Yankees, Mets and Knicks alone.

  1. Not sure what tax money the Knicks have gotten lately, but sure, why not...

  2. This is from the same area that created a tax-free area for Disney.

Fix that first and we'll talk, Goofy.
