THIS FROM ADAM, regarding the New York Sterling Index (Posted below)
A linear regression on the NYSI versus winning margin shows a strong negative correlation between winning margin and posted NYSI index.
The equations are:
NYSI (win_margin) = (6.535 +/- 0.3) - (0.235 +/- 0.06) * win_margin and (where win_margin < 0 =" a">
NYSI (win_margin <>
The p-values are significant and an adjusted R-squared value around .5 makes me think that with more data the hypothesis will be confirmed.
We have nothing to worry about: the man just doesn't get excited about blowout victories.
Adding to the variability is the presence of an extra innings game, which would by common logic add to the excitability of one Mr. John Sterling and increase the NYSI assuming a Yankees win.
Testing for an "extra innings effect" in the variability of the NYSI shows, however, that due to a small sample size it is impossible to draw any significant conclusion with a p-value of .33.
Horseshit.
ReplyDeleteI got news for you math-heads....
ReplyDeleteProbablility theory has nothing to do with the correlations you are using.
The answer is tied to the extra-innings games. It is the only relevant factor in the formula.
Here is why:
John always has a post-game dinner companion lined up, regardless of where the boys are playing.
The "broadcaster groupie" union provides the companionship.
When any Yankee game goes into extra innings...he laments that situation.
Because...
Some bimbo is waiting in a bar or restaurant for him, getting pissed. He has scheduled his martini for 45 miutes afte the last out and each lingering, extra-inning at bat, adds to her anger.
If the game is still tied in the
11th, she either bolts or waits until John finally shows and then bolts.
In either case, as soon as the game hits the 10th inning, John pretty much knows he has no shot at getting lucky.
So, unless there is a quick Yankee walk-off HR, you won't get a meaningful warble from John.
He is simply too depressed.
A+B=C
What a waste of pixels.
ReplyDeleteAdam, I love this, and wanted you on the Yankee Employee Of The Month poll. But these people are a bunch of narrow-minded Popes and you're all Galileo. Our time will come after we're dead, brother. (Fist-bump to Duque for front-paging these findings.)
