I think it's obvious that Hughes can't take any pressure. Just look at his history, he comes up as a great prospect, but loses his first start, the next start when the expectations were down he almost pitches a no hitter. The next year when he's supposed to be a stud in the rotation he's terrible, when he comes back towards the end of the season when nobody expects anything he pitches pretty well (but can't get a win). This season when he starts the season in the minors, he comes up and pitches a shutout, then as soon as everyone starts expecting him to do well, in his next starts he's a complete bust.

This season in particular, I have observed umpires really
ReplyDelete" squeezing" the strike zone against Yankee pitchers.
Phil Hughes wasn't even on the planet in his last outing, when he couldn't make it out of the second inning.
He just is not the same guy that we all saw pitching that no-hitter against Texas, when he had to leave the game due to injury.
Not at all the same guy.
In fact, he is reminding me more and more of his Scranton twin, Ian Kennedy.
