May 28, 2009 Thursday
Dear Editor,
Last Thursday's account of the Yankee game disappoints ("Cano gives Yankees 9th win," May 22). It mentions that Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera hit home runs and that the Yankees hit three home runs in successive at-bats. But it doesn't report that the first of the three was hit by Nick Swisher. After a hot start this year, Swisher had fallen into a terrible slump. That he may have broken out of it is big news.
The article says a number of Yankees hit home runs. Then it points out that Alex Rodriguez did not hit one. That makes it seem as though Rodriguez fell down on the job. It fails to state that Rodriguez had only one official at-bat. He walked twice and got hit by a pitch. He scored twice and drove in a run. Not a bad night.
