There used to be a cathedral here. "Sacred ground," they called it.

    They wrecked the cathedral in 1975.
    The place they are demolishing now wasn't really where Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, Ford, Rizzuto, and Berra played, Larsen pitched his perfect game, and Maris hit number 61.

    I'm so sick and tired of that excuse, Joe. Is the new place MORE where Ruth, Gehrig, et. al. played? No? Then come off it, would you?

    I dont care about the renovation. The new stadium doesnt sound like the old one. Thats the biggest problem.

    I'm not making excuses for what they did.
    I'm just saying that as far as us old guys are concerned they did most of it, and broke our hearts, 35 years ago. Now they're just finishing the job.
