Skipper Joe Girardi may face the toughest juggling act of his Yankee tenure: Survive the pennant race with only four regular DHs, which means some workhorse hitters must bat on only three days' rest.
Hopefully, Nick Johnson will heal from china doll normalcy or another starter will tweak a gonad, ensuring that the Yankees assume a full "1980s retro-look 5-man DH rotation," in honor of the late George Steinbrenner.
Currently, the playoff rotation projects as follows:
Game 1: Jorge Posada
Game 2: Marcus Thames
Game 3: Austin Kearns
Game 4 (Probably not necessary, because we'll be out of it by then): Lance Beckman.
Game 5: To Be Announced. (A-Rod? Jeet? Jeez Montero?)
Brian Cashman better work the phones and find a bloated salary-dump prospect. Is John Kruk still swinging a bat?

ReplyDeleteI got both exciting and terrible. The lined ground single by Thames, and the horribly confusing "Happy Thames are here again" from Sterling. What does that even mean?
If it wasn't for me, storming out of El Duque's beachfront mansion with the Yanks down 3-1, we would not have come back to win.
