You know those cartoons where the guy runs off a cliff and keeps running suspended in mid-air, no problem, until the instant he looks down and realizes there's no ground, and then he plummets earthward? I think the Yankees just looked down.
Really, they had no business being in first place to start with. They're finally playing about as badly as we figured they should be playing all year.
