I Agree With The Sori Purchase

I just finished peeing on El Duque's lawn while he was texting, and I am also three sheets into the wind.

But I remain alert and am lending my support to Hal & Hank.

Duque is right on this one, and he was right on the earlier Lee deal that the Yankees failed to make. Brian should have given them Nunez, who is no Jeter. At the high-end of his career, Nunez will be a serviceable back-up SS, who can hit .266 worth of singles.

So we spent $36 million and gave up a number one pick for the best reliever available in the majors.

Tell me, folks, who since Jeter have we drafted number one that we :

A. Are happy to still have on the roster?

B. Can still find in a Yankee uniform?

C. Know to be still in baseball?

D. Can recall has helped the Yankees win anything?

E. Can even correctly identify his name, unaided.

Not for nuthin' ( as my secretary used to say ), but the Yankees draft worse than the NY Giants.

In my scientific assessment, the Yankee draft picks are of the same quality, and

have roughly the same DNA , as salamander excrement.

Seriously, if you want to focus on a major failing in the Yankee organization, just look at our scouting of young prospects. Look at the results of our drafts. Who is responsible, year after year, for this blatant failure ? Why is no change made in this area?

We might as well not even be in the major league drafts.

Seriously, in the old days, guys like Alex Webster ( when he was coach during the dark 18 years of lousy football ) and some of his buddies would get drunk in a bar, and then draft guys from Notre Dame. It was the best they ever did.

And the Yankees would do better in selecting players to draft if they just got drunk in a bar and threw darts at the list.

When the Yankees give away a number one pick in a trade, just think of it as giving away another Andy Brown. Look him up . A 6'6" number one pick outfielder who could not run, throw or hit. And never did. Now selling re-built tires in Ocala, Florida.

Or think of the prospect we drafted number one who chose to attend UCLA. And by the way, his family had informed the Yankees before the draft, that their son was going to college first. It's like a hurricane is coming and Brian says, looks like a nice day for a sail.

It never ends. We have no one we can hold up and say, " here's our next star." Jeter is the only one. We pretended to have one such player, but we traded him to Detroit for what's his name.

So, the Yankees have to buy talent, years after the draft and years after the development process. It is the only way the Yankees can compete now. And we aren't even doing all that well with this approach.

Let's raise a glass, therefore, to acknowledge that we have brought a player to the team who actually has some chance for adding value. A Nick Johnson he is not.
