Today's essay question: Are the 1986 Mets the worst group of men to ever win a championship?

They make a solid case. Lenny "Nail" Dykstra is the latest of that vaunted lineup to crumble. He may be nailed by the feds for fraud.

(Today's tongue-twister: Lenny made the Mets' Madoff before the Mets met Madoff. )

What a guy, Dykstra. He's had more incarnations than Windows '95: He started out as a Brett Gardner. Thanks to, uhmm, training methods, he ended looking like Curly Culp. After retirement, he became Ivan Boesky and now he's into the Madoff win of Club Fed.

But back to the original premise. Here's the Met lineup from 1986.
Lenny Dykstra - INDICTED.
Wally Backman - DUI, HOME ARREST, SHADY BUSINESS DEALINGS
Darryl Strawberry - DRUG ABUSE, SOLICITING SEX, SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Keith Hernandez - HORRIBLE HAIR COLORING COMMERCIALS
Kevin Mitchell - ASSAULT ARRESTS
Dwight Gooden - DRUGS
Tim Teufel - BAR FIGHT ARREST
Bobby Ojeda - BAR FIGHT ARREST
Rick Aguilera - BAR FIGHT ARREST, (ALSO, DIDN'T HE FALL DOWN DURING THAT TRIBUTE TO THE QUEEN OF SOUL AT THE GRAMMYS?)
RON DARLING - BAR RIGHT ARREST
GEORGE FOSTER - RELEASED BY TEAM BECAUSE DIDN'T JOIN FIGHT ON FIELD

Top THAT, Lawrence Taylor and your Giants!
