I never could understand why Casey batted Richardson first most of the time. He was awful. Career OBP .299. Never higher than .337. {Jeter career .383; this year .320; last year .340}
You're right Joe. In retrospect they should have kept Jerry Lumpe instead. He had about the same lifetime BA, but a career OBP of .325. Plus he had a lot more power.
I think they thought Richardson was a better fielder, but the stats on Baseball-Reference.com don't support that. But we did get Ralph Terry in the Lumpe trade; maybe the A's didn't want Richardson.
