Kevin Whelan - last prospect standing in the otherwise miserable Gary Sheffield trade - cleared waivers, which means he's still our meat, and thus, must spend another season in the coal mine - (although this year they'll be the Traveling Wilkes Barres.) Whelan could be the team's closer, following in the hallowed Scrantonian footsteps of Colter "Rollie" Bean and Jonathan "The Mad Hungarian" Albaladejo. With Andrew Brackman in Cinncinati, Whelan is the new Ryne Duran of Scranton. Let's hope he starts throwing strikes - (because that's all it would take) - and ends up chewing a few innings for us in the Bronx. He could be our bridge to Corey Wade.
I'm rooting for him... not for loyalty to Cashman or for the team.
But for the memory of Sheff.
