Well, you are entitled to your opinion, Mustang. But speaking from personal experience, I found Alfonso Soriano to be a really tough out. We battled over the years, and he has gained my respect.

ReplyDeleteI think Soriano was a good pickup. He has more home runs by himself in the last 30 days than the Yankees do as a team. We needed a right-handed power hitter. The fact that the Cubs are eating the majority of his contract now through the end of next season combined with the fact that we gave away a smallish (5'11") pitching prospect with very little upside, makes me question why the Cubs even agreed happy. We usually aren't on the good side of the deal.
ReplyDeleteWe drafted Corey Black in 2012 and he worked his way from Rookie league, to A-, to A. In 2013, the small 5'11" hurler has been in A+ league and his numbers are poor: 3-8 in 19 starts with a 4.25 ERA. The only saving grace is this kid doesn't give up home runs, yielding only two in 79 hits. Unless he miraculously blossoms, he'll most likely be a situational pitcher for an NL team and of little value to the Yankees.
What the Yankees should be doing is pulling out ALL the stops to trade for Kyle Seager of the Mariners. Maybe offer up Joba (and we eat his contract) and a couple of minor leaguers. Kyle is the best 3B in the game who isn't already a marquee player and/or locked into a ridiculous contract and he's young, too.
If we cannot get Kyle (and I believe we could if we tried hard enough), then maybe we look for a young hotshot shortstop and move Jeter to third. Third is far less demanding and Jeter has lost mobility and quickness as a result of age and injury. And SS to 3B is a relatively easy transition.
