Holy crap! An actual cause for Yankee hope?

Apparently, the Yankees are adding another low-level minor league team to the system.

This is good. No... great.

Keep in mind, they already field two teams in the Gulf Coast League - the entry level. They are the only team that does this. Adding a team to the Appalachian League would widen our scope at another level, giving more Yankee prospects a shot at everyday play. Theoretically, the best ones will play their way up to Charleston, Tampa and beyond.

I can't think of a better long-range plan than to overpower other franchises by building more facilities, more teams, and giving more prospects a chance. (To get one MLB pitcher these days, you need ten young arms.) Only trouble? The dividends won't show up for years.

The Appalachian League is a bridge between the Gulf Coast and Staten Island. At least, we have an advantage over other teams, and I don't think Bud Selig can do anything about it.

  1. watch MLB try to limit minor league franchises. either that, or make the Yankees pay to support other team's development programs.

"It's just not fair!" The rallying cry of immature dolts and children the world over.

  2. This is definitely good.

The problem is the rules basically bar every old means of acquiring players to stuff the minors. You can't cheat the draft, and you can only cheat the international signings on a few remaining cubans. we'll see

  6. I know we play second fiddle but we jersey-ites simply LOVE Pulaski. Even named a fine bridge after it! Needs a little fix'n, however...

  7. In the context of the song, John was actually praising Pulaski by riffing on the rhyme Paree ( Paris).

    I love Pulaski and Galex!
