How Shocked?

Austin hits one out in his first major league at bat.

Then Judge redefines, " hitting one out, " in his.

Sanchez has flashed power, batting eye and a rocket arm,

Didi and Castro are playing well.

Austin Romine has established himself as a capable major league catcher.

Bettances still looms.

And then there is Luis Severino.

We have a long way to go.

But there are reasons to watch, not named Headley, Ellsbury, Gardner, Hicks and McCann.

  1. Is there any rational explanation for the continued presence of Aaron Hicks on the Yankee roster?

  2. Why is Starlin Castro considered a "thing"? He's a thoroughly mediocre player--merely competent in the field, lousy at the plate---and with a glaringly sullen, demoralizing attitude to boot. Are he and Hicks still on the roster because of idiot Cashman's inability to admit he was wrong about anything? And why haven't the Yankees simply released Mark Texeira? Can anyone doubt that it would be of far greater benefit to the team to have Refsnyder playing second base or first base every day, developing as a player, rather than trundling out the same old washouts and mediocrities?

  3. I agree 100% with the prior "anonymous" statement.
Will someone please find some sort of job for useless Cashman, somewhere as far away from the Yankees as possible.....

  4. We have, for nearly a decade now, advocated the banishment of Brian Cashman.

Even Putin turned him down, and he is trying to start baseball in Russia.

  5. Tex never had a steroids scandal. He gets to play out his contract.

Castro has flashes of power. Hicks "has really been hitting since Beltran was traded" according the O'Kay on YES.

As much as I like to hope that we might actually get somewhere this year in terms of the postseason, well, I don't know.

And then there's Ellsbury. How many years to go there?

  6. SORRY anonymous BUT I MUST SAY, STARLIN CASTRO IS WINNING ME OVER, AND HE SHOULD BE WINNING YOU OVER TOO....WHY???..... BECAUSE HE GETS BIG HITS!.... I CAN RECALL 2 GRAND SLAMS JUST RECENTLY, A GAME WINNING HOME RUN (THAT I WAS AT), A GAME WHERE WE HAD ONLY ONE HIT AND WON IT 1-0, (HIS HOME RUN WON IT FOR US), AND QUITE A FEW OTHER CLUTCH HITS...........SURE, HIS OBP STINKS BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WALK, BUT AT 26 YEARS OLD, HOPEFULLY HE CAN BECOME MORE SELECTIVE, AND LETS BE HONEST, HE IS A PRETTY DECENT 2ND BASEMAN...NOT GREAT IN THE FIELD, BUT GOOD ENOUGH, AND STEADY..... SURE I WANTED REFSNYDER FOR 2ND BASE LAST SEASON, JUST LIKE YOU, BUT THAT SHIP HAS SAILED. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE IN PRETTY GOOD HANDS WITH CASTRO.........BUT, HICKS HAS TO GO!

  7. To John M.: No one PROVED that Teixeira is on the juice, so his reward is to be able to drag the Yankees to obliviion in a season where they now have a fighting chance of making the playoffs if they would just do the sensible thing and dump him? How does that proposal add up to being a Yankee fan? I'm sure all the Yankees' playoff rivals are hoping they'll keep his sorry ass at first base as well. Meanwhile, they just sent Refsnyder down again so they can keep ensure that Teixeira will continue to drag the team to obvlivion, thus demoralizing and retarding the development of yet ANOTHER of their good young players? THIS IS INSANITY.

To Mr. ALL CAPS: Starlin Castro is awful. That's why Theo Epstein was shrewd enough to unload him and Cashman was stupid enough to oblige him. His defense is overrated--he actually has a MINUS defensive WAR. His overall WAR is just barely in plus territory, at .5--so overall he's worth a HALF GAME over a replacement player. Notwithstanding your subjective impressions about his "big hits," his overall "clutch" numbers are terrible, along with his other offensive output. Another Cashman Turkey.

  8. ON A TEAM THAT JUST CAN NOT GET A BIG HIT, STARLIN CASTRO HAS HAD HIS SHARE THIS SEASON, WHICH IS MORE THAN JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN THE LINEUP THIS YEAR....C'MON anonymous, HE ISN'T THAT BAD, AND I THINK MOST YANKEE FANS ON THIS SITE WOULD AGREE WITH ME.....NO DISRESPECT.

  9. ALL CAPS--"Clutch" is an illusions. This is one of the best established statistical insights of the last thirty years. Castro gets no more "big" hits than anyone else. You're just peddling a subjective impression based on two or three instances out of a season. That's completely irrational and at odds with easily established empirical realities.

  10. Despite the growing animosity amongst type-faces, one truth abides. Maybe more.

Cashman has been a putrid GM for the Yankees, and his continued presence in the role bodes poorly.

Tex should sit the fuck down. Why is Tyler Austin here? They are treating him like Refsnyder. Hit a homer, hit a double. Sit down.

Watch Tex go 0-4 and hit into double plays.

Girardi is a liability. Has been for years.

How many truths in the above?

    I can't count.

  11. WE CAN ALL AGREE WITH THAT....CASHMAN HAS BEEN AN AWFUL, GM FOR A LONG TIME NOW....NO DISAGREEMENT THERE....
