Suddenly, no outfielders?

Aaron Judge is likely done for the season. Last night, he swung so hard that he tweaked his tummy, and keep in mind that Judge's belly is larger than Tom Cruise.

Today, behold the Yankee outfield:

Ellsbury.
Gardy.
Brigadoon Refsnyder.
Tyler Austin
Eric Young
Your name here.

They say Aaron Hicks could return next week, but without a rehab game. The guy was hitting in August, but his Jumbotron average still says .213. So... ideas, anyone? Class? Coney shouted "Scranton!" Well, let's see what we have in the treasure chest:

Mason Williams, 25, LH, who has hit .296 in 125 at bats since missing most of the season from a shoulder injury...

Jake Cave, 23, LH, who homered last night, his 5th on the year, but has batted .265.

Clint Frazier,
22, RH, the super-prospect from the Andrew Miller deal, who won't get the call, because it would mess up future service time, and also, because he's hitting only .228.

Cesar Puello
, 25, RH, a former Met prospects, who hit .283 with 5 HRs.

Who yelled Yoan Moncada? Eject that person from the room! What? Ben Gamel? I won't mention Ben Gamel. Nobody wants to hear me fulminate on Ben Gamel. I've certainly done enough of that already. There's nothing to be said about Ben Gamel.

Who is Ben Gamel? Don't get me started. Why am I even mentioning him? Who is he? OK, since you asked, Ben Gamel is the IL Player of the Year, the 24-year-old LH CF whom the Yankees traded to Seattle two weeks ago for a pair of rookie league embryos. It's not that Ben Gamel has exploded since his trade to the Mariners (who have now won 7 in a row, in part because of a tomato can AL West schedule.) He's four for 23 with a HR and 4 RBIs. He's a lefty platoon.

Hey, it's nice to hoard minor league arms. But you know what? Brain Cashman outsmarted himself, and now we might even have to trade a minor league arm or two for a two-week OF rental, which will totally suck, because the most important thing we will do this month is build for next year - not chase the final wild card, as tempting as it looks. God help us if Gardy or Ellsbury - the two most fragile dolls on our roster - collide on a fly. Then what'll we do? Bring A-Rod out of retirement? Bring back Slade Heathcott?

Well, enough. We won last night. That's all that matters. Tonight, all that stands between us and Detroit is Clayton Kershaw, who should be on a pitch-count. We gotta win. I say Brigadoon, it's up to you. And let's call WB Mason Williams. But please, please, please... keep Cashman away from a phone.

  1. From the Evil Sports Pinhead Network:

Judge will have an MRI on his strained oblique Wednesday, and Girardi did not sound especially optimistic the powerful 6-foot-7 rookie would play again anytime soon. Asked if Judge could be finished for the season, Girardi said, "It's possible. We won't see him for while."

Girardi said that, for now, Rob Refsnyder would be the regular right fielder and that Tyler Austin could see some time there, too. Hicks, who has been out with hamstring strain, could rejoin the Yankees next week, and there is the possibility that an outfielder -- Mason Williams and Clint Frazier are the main candidates -- could be brought up from Triple-A Scranton.

  2. THAT GA DAMN CASHMAN....HE PLAYED "GUNSLINGER" AND TOSSED AWAY BEN GAMEL LIKE GARBAGE..... NOW SUDDENLY, WE COULD USE HIM...BADLY.. ....... THE JUDGE INJURY HAS ME PISSED OFF...REMEMBER, HE WAS OUT ABOUT A MONTH WITH SCRANTON WITH HIS KNEE.....WE CAN'T START WITH THIS "BABYING" SHIT WITH HIM...... IF HE CAN PLAY AT ALL THE REST OF THIS SEASON, PLAY HIM....DON'T SHUT HIM DOWN.... HE NEEDS EXPERIENCE, AND HE NEEDS TO BE TOUGH......WE CAN'T ALLOW AND ACCEPT THIS "PULL A MUSCLE, MISS A MONTH" SHIT.....WE ALSO CAN'T CONDONE IT, (WHICH WE ALWAYS DO WITH OUR PLAYERS)......I'M GOING TO THE GAME TODAY....I AM MAD JUDGE WILL NOT FACE KERSHAW, BUT HE IS INJURED, AND THAT HAPPENS..... LETS NOT MAKE A HABIT OF IT.
