"Greatest game ever?" Pffffft.

That's what the heads are chattering about Goat v Wahoo.

Pffft.

I'd put Aaron Boone, Bucky Dent, Bill Mazeroski, Carlton Fisk, the Tino and Brosius finales, and even Luis Gonzalez' humpback single up there. Maybe a Dave Roberts game, too.

But my personal favorite game of all time is the 2015 Yankees route of Texas, 21-5, when we batted around three times, and Diego Moreno pitched 5.1 no hit innings. Gimme a Yankee 16-run blowout, and I'll stay for the entire post-game show, then watch it again on replay.

  1. The beauty of the Cubs is that every fan from 9 to 99 now knows the joy of winning. And Wrigley doesn't have that terrible moat for the 1 percenters. We should all be Cubs fans today. Let them enjoy their parade. They deserve it.

  2. It was a very, very, very good game. While watching it, at no time did I think "greatest game ever."

That's the kind of hype you'd expect from Trump, Mr. Bestest.

  5. I agree about the 1978 1-game playoff being the greatest ever.

If you haven't read it, there's a fantastic story called "The Greatest Game Ever Played" by Thomas Boswell. Boswell is/was an Orioles beat writer for the Baltimore Sun, so he comes to this question unbiased.

The story is collected in a book called "How Life Imitates the World Series". You can buy it used for next to nothing on Amazon or ABEBooks.com.

The background info on Lou Piniella losing the ball in the sun and all the other things that happened in that game make great reading.

  7. Wait, did the Cubs and the Indians just play the 1956 World Series? No? Then it wasn't the greatest game ever.

  8. I was there. In the left field bleachers.

Piniella had no idea where the ball was (I was behind him looking into the same sun).

That was the play of the game. Not Bucky Dent.

BTW, when the small market sux decided to sell bricks to their beer concourse, you could buy one for about 250 bucks. A few friends and I went in together and bought one with a couple of 'replicas'. Now there is a brick in phen weigh pahk that says "My visit was a real home run. Russ O'Dey" Just inside the bleacher entrance in the "Yaz" section. Ortiz shirt in the foundation -- Pfffft! Bucky Fucking Dent immortalized in THEIR park? Loving it!

My friend and I had our replicas signed by Mike Torrez and Buck Fucking Dent. It sits in my office today.

    Best game ever? That one.
