Today's Yankee news: Things are not happening

That's right. Luis Dorante - the winningest manager in Charleston Riverdogs history - is taking the helm of the 2017 Pulaski Yankees.

  1. RAB yesterday linked to a nice tribute for my favorite Yankee, Bernie Williams, whose smiling visage graces my office to this day. I can't imagine there ever being another Yankee like Bernie. He was soooo cool. Brought little tears to my eyes. The years have flown by too quickly.

any of you guys who still work for money: have any Yankees stuff in your office?

  2. Yes:
Little League bat from Bat Day at Yankee Stadium in 1960s/70s
        Yankee souvenir bat
        Yankee beer stein
Books by or about the Yankees:
"The Year I Owned the Yankees" by Sparky Lyle
"Summers in the Bronx" by Ira Berkow
            "Babe" by Robert Creamer
"Streak" by Michael Seidel (highly interesting, btw)

    Not Yankees items, but:
35 other baseball books (I just counted)
        Shoebox full of baseball cards
My boyhood baseball glove with 6 minor league foul balls I've caught and 4 others given away on promo days

  3. Ron Cooper ball in Duque's camp.

But I no longer work for money. I am on a Crown royal allowance at a local bar.

  4. It was Ron Coomer, whose picture was hand-painted on a ball. They used to call him "Coom-Dawg."

  5. Amongst the jumble: a 10" wooden Yankees' plaque; a wall-clock w/ the NY logo on it; coupla' hats w/ that logo, plus a little plastic helmet, which was a give-away; a big wooden bowl-ful of autographed balls (with a couple of Jeet's), a limited-edition Matsui auto ball, inscribed MVP, 2009 WS), a 1998 team-auto ball (from spring training, but nearly all of 'em are on it), a team-auto ball from the late 50s, w/ Mick, Yogi, and many others on it), etc....and, of course, my plush, stars n' stripes donkey (won for free-throwing at a fair in 1963). In the bedroom: auto. bats from Jogginson Cano, Jete, & Teix; in the den: an auto., inscribed photo from Matsui (when I wrote to him, and told him to get well soon after his wrist injury), plus various NY throw- and neck-pillows; in the living-room: approx. 100 Yankee hats (most of my collection), a mini-bat, signed by Moose Skowron, Clete Boyer, & Bobby Richardson; more auto. ballzz; my Jeter jersey, draped over a chair; my Mattingly t-shirt, draped over another chair, etc....In a vault: 5 mint cards from the 1962 Sports-Vision (??) test-set: Mantle, Mays, Musial, two others - - these are actual records in clear, over the star's pix, which you could play, and hear the star's actual voice (repro.) - - all unplayed, and dead-mint (I lucked into those one day).... I won't bore you further.... LB (no J)

  8. Never had a chance. It's not the type of thing you send in the mail.

  9. I have a signed Dan Pasqua photograph. I asked him to personalize it and he declined before signing quickly and moving on to the next kid.

  10. I spent an evening with Dan Pasqua last summer. Hell of a nice guy. Autograph lines must be hell.

  11. never paid for an autograph and I didn't need to. All I needed to do was come in early during batting practice and the players would sometimes sign my program if I pestered them enough. of course, that was over 50 years ago. I don't see any players signing programs for kids these days.

why a guy who makes multiple millions annually needs to take a kid's money for a signature, I'll never understand.

  12. I just have fat thumbs. I know Ron Coomer. And you are no Ron Coomer.

  13. They shoulda' called him "Boomer" Coomer, not??
Apparently, your fat thumbs will wrap around a glass of Crown Royal, Fonz; me, I can't afford Crown Royal: I'm on an allowance of more like Royal Crown (cola)....only reason I could afford all the stuff mentioned above is that I have no children, don't smoke, rarely drink, and worked a full-time job for about 30 years, on top of my small biz....

Anyone see Contursi's discussion of the Yanks' PR problem earlier today on ESNY? That ticket problem would certainly eliminate riff-raff such as "mois".... LB (no J)
