Did you know? Jacoby Ellsbury is the greatest catcher interferer in history

Odd fact known by few: Last year, our own Jacoby Ellsbury set a all-time MLB record for reaching first on Catchers' Interferences! (CI) He surgically coaxed 12 stupid backstops into touching his bat, thereby receiving 12 free tickets to first base.

He is second on the all-time career catcher interference list with 26, only three outwitted catchers behind the great CI magnet, Pete Rose.

In MLB last season, catchers interfered with 39 batters. Nearly one out of three was Ellsbury. He is "Mr. Catcher Interference," the Michael Jordan of CI!

  1. HAVE YOU HEARD THAT OUR HITTING COACH, (COACH COCK), WANTS ELLS TO STOP WHAT HE HAS BEEN DOING, AND MOVE UP IN THE BOX AND SWING EARLIER?...TRUE!!...HOPEFULLY, HE IS NOT TAKING AWAY FROM SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY HAS BEEN HELPING OUR TEAM....

  2. I, too, fear that AC might be misguided by advising Ells to move up and swing earlier: he already swings at too many first pitches, to not much avail, to date. Won't much matter, though, if he does get on base (by hook, or by crook) unless he's going to run the bases better, like he used to. LB (No J)

  3. I AGREE anonymous..... IT'S AMAZING HOW ELLS, (AND GARDY) JUST SEEMED TO LOSE THEIR BASE STEALING ABIITIES AROUND THE SAME TIME....COULD IT BE GIRARDI'S FAULT?....MAYBE HE DOESN'T WANT THEM TO RUN?...I DON'T SEE WHY IN THE WORLD HE WOULDN'T, WHEN WE HAVE NO GOOD HITTERS FOR AVERAGE, NOR ANY CLUTCH HITTERS EITHER......THESE GUYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUNNING WILD THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAS BEEN LIKE PULLING TEETH TO SCORE A RUN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS....REMEMBER, EVEN IF THEY GET THROW OUT, IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER!....THE LAST COUPLE YEARS?....WE CAN'T HIT, WE CAN'T SCORE!!!

  4. Joey Blue-Binders doesn't value moving runners over - - I've been hitting him for that ever since he took over. He's strictly a station-to-staion guy (perhaps it has to do with being a prototypical catcher-type - - but I think it's more likely just his style - - frustrating.) LB (No J)

  5. .....BUT WASN'T HE A "NATIONAL LEAGUE" VERSED MANAGER? (THAT USED TO PLAY FUNDAMENTAL BASEBALL)?....BUNT, STEAL, SAC FLY, MOVE RUNNERS OVER, PITCHING AND DEFENSE?.... I THOUGHT HE USED TO BE...... HE SURE HASN'T BEEN FOR A LONG TIME NOW....

  6. Except for the fact that he likes to pull double- and triple- switches, I have never really seen any evidence of his NL experience. LB (No J)

  7. Girardi could never run. So why would he think it was valuable?

You know, he may look like a jarhead with that haircut and the incessant working out, but always remember he's really a blockhead. And I don't mean he used to be in Ian Dury's band.
