Trouble in Tampa

We are now in second. We have now lost seven of our last 10 games. We are now in danger of being swept by a team that was under .500 before the series began. We are now a team without an ace. We are now a team in trouble.

If the season ended today, all the excitement of the last two months - Aaron Judge, Starlin Castro, Aaron Hicks - would have netted us the home field advantage in a one-game wild card... and not one starter we could count on to pitch it.

But the essential question in the Yankiverse remains the same as it was last week: Will the Yankees stick with the rebuilding process of youth, or go back to the policies that put us in this hole?

Last week, when asked, Hal Steinbrenner gave no clear answers. But if we squander the victories of April and start trading young players for veterans, I'm going to start following golf.

  1. After the plunking and the ejections yesterday my fear is that the Yankees are starting a rivalry with Tampa. That they retaliate tonight by hitting Longoria, The Yankee Killer. Benches clear. The dishonest media will make it bigger than it is. Joe Binder gets ejected every game ("Lock him up") and as a result we start winning again.

But long term we lose, because we are now the rivals of a small town franchise. No longer in the "Dodger/Socks/Cubs"-brawl league, bit part of Minor League street fights.

  2. The thing is that they do have a backlog of players, so they can trade away some guys but if they do want to serious contend, they'll have to trade for two if not three quality starters which would gut the minors just about completely of all their promising rookies. They better get pitchers who has a lot of years on them if they do that instead of one to two year rentals.

  3. ANONYMOUS IS RIGHT....WE DO HAVE A BACK LOG OF PLAYERS, WITH NO WHERE TO PUT THEM.
GOOD PITCHING IS AT A SKY HIGH PREMIUM THESE DAYS IN BASEBALL, BUT HOW ELSE DO YOU OBTAIN IT?..... IF WE ARE NOT WILLING TO KEEP CALLING UP PITCHERS FROM THE MINORS, FOR TRYOUTS ON THE MAJOR LEAGUE LEVEL (LIKE WE DID WITH MONTGOMERY), THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE TO TURN........ BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW ENOUGH TO MAKE THE RIGHT DEAL LIKE THE RED SOX DID WITH CHRIS SALE..... THAT GUY IS A DIFFERENCE MAKER..... YES, AGAIN I'M CRYING OVER SPILLED MILK.

  4. If the Yankees, " abandon ship," and start dealing position prospects for big name ( no production ) pitching, I will convert to anything but golf.

    I am nearly there already.
