Here We Go Again....

I had just sent a text about how I did not look forward to having to watch Pineda today.

My next thought:  "you know, it seems a light year since we haven't been trailing in the first inning."
So I turn on the tube to see we are already down 1 run; shortly to be followed by Beltran's 2 run homer.  Whoops; down 3-0.

Basically, we now see if Pineda can somehow struggle through 5-6 innings without giving up more than 5-6 runs.  Then Joe can say, " he settled in" and helped our bullpen.

Sorry.

This just sucks.  The game is over and everyone knows it.

Sure, Aaron may hit another solo homer, and maybe Tyler Austin will work a walk.

But the Rangers are going to score more and we are going to go down.

If we are down by 10, I say, " give Tyler Clippard another chance to find himself."

Meanwhile, I suggest everyone turn off their radios, tv's, and internet devices and go get drunk.

Watch Detroit or some iron man competition if you have to.

Don't bother with this useless team, now heading toward .500.

Oh right.  I forgot.  We were not supposed to have high expectations for this season, anyway.

Good.  I don't.One final question:  " what's for dinner in Rotterdam tonight?"

  1. John Sterling predicted baseball.
He said that the Yankees could be blown out and that this was a very important at bat. Even so early in the game.

    A three run shot.
I get to get to bed early tonight.

  2. Woof. Another three runs in the second. Makes me wish I could watch the O's instead.

  3. Big rally in the 5th thanks to a muffed 3d strike.
Nevertheless, my 79 wins prediction is looking less ridiculous every day.

Sorry, Urban, but I really hate the white cap.

  4. My fellow 'phen weigh' commemorative brickmate and I are heading to Comiskey (the mistake not near the lake) to watch the guys try to get healthy. Tickets to the next two games. Watch for the bald guy with the Yankees jersey with ALL the retired numbers on the back.

  5. White caps aren't my fave, either, Joe, but blame MLB & the Yankees for their greed: they would license ANY color combo which they thought would bring them a cut. Also, the Yankees' promo geniuses frequently come up with "cap nights", and one of those, a couple of years ago, promoted by Cooper Tires, features adjustable white caps; I know, because a friend was there, and "gifted" it to me, b/c he couldn't stand it, either - - and he knew I have a collection of roughly 100+ Yankee caps of different color combos.

What can I say?? I'm an inveterate collector - - when I run out of one thing to collect, I move on and collect something else. At least it keeps a few dozen New Era employees working - - I understand that Yankee's caps are a yuuuuuge portion of their biz...

MLB also mandates those awful pastel-blue and pastel-pink caps on various weekends - - and the last time we were Division champs, they gave the players off-white caps to wear saying ALCS Division Champs - - I know, because I have one of those, too.

Personally, the ones I hate are the YELLOW ones, and the ones with rhinestones - - plus the camo ones (except the blue camo, which I have been known to wear, occasionally). LB (No J)

  6. Rufus,

We'll look for you, fer' sure, but not in Comiskey - - they flattened Comiskey years ago (maybe 20), made it into a parking-lot, and built US Cellular Field...

I know it was there, already, in 2001, because I was at the first two games the Yanks played after the 9/11 hiatus - - and it was USCF then (still a mistake, and STILL, not by the Lake) - - for one of those games, Clemens DROVE up from Texas in his SUV and pitched, and Jeet had two jacks, both towering flies over the LF fence! I have photos of me right before that game, in my Jeter/#2 outfit.

Have fun, and we'll be rooting that another tomato-can doesn't bring us closer to .500 LB (No J)

P.S. I have a lined leather jacket with ALL the 27 championships - - dates and official patches - - on it - - back, front, and sleeves - - but it's not game-worn, since it is so heavy that it would have to be freezing out for it to make sense for me to wear it to a game.

  7. OK...... HICKS IS NOW GOING TO BE OUT FOR ABOUT A MONTH, LETS SEE IF OUR BRASS MAKES THE PRACTICAL AND POSSIBLY HELPFUL DECISION, OR THE RIDICULOUS, NO-HELP, ROSTER MOVE NONSENSE THAT WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO........ NOW, WE KNOW ELLSBURY IS ON HIS WAY BACK PRETTY SOON, BUT, HE IS SHAKY, AND FRAGILE, AND CAN'T BE RUSHED WITH HIS CONDITION.

    SO.......

    PRACTICAL, POSSIBLY HELPFUL CALL UP:
    DUSTIN FOWLER

(REASON)? : WE NEED A LEFTY BAT, AND THIS KID IS HITTING NEAR .300 ALL SEASON, HE PROVIDES MORE YOUTH AND EXCITEMENT, AND IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE GOOD SPEED AND A GOOD GLOVE.

    RIDICULOUS ROSTER NON-HELP CALL UP:
    ROB REFSNYDER

(REASON)? : WE ALL KNOW I AM FOND OF REFSNYDER, BUT THAT WAS BEFORE WE DESTROYED HIM, AND CRUSHED HIS CONFIDENCE AS A PLAYER...... NOW, I GROAN WHEN WE CALL HIM UP..... ALL HE DOES IS SIT ON THE BENCH, AND WHEN HE DOES PLAY, THEY MOVE HIM ALL AROUND THE FIELD, AND TO BE HONEST, THE GUY ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE A DEER IN HEADLIGHTS. HE HAS BECOME WHAT THE YANKEES HAVE MADE HIM BECOME..... A BENCH PLAYER.

SO, OUR BRASS WILL SOON PROBABLY HAVE A CHOICE..... WHO'S IT GOING TO BE? .... THE HELPFUL CALL UP, OR NON ISSUE CALL UP?

AND, HOW ABOUT CALLING UP CHANCE ADAMS?
MAYBE WE CATCH A LITTLE LIGHTENING IN A BOTTLE?....MAYBE WE DON'T.
....BUT CAN IT BE WORSE THAN WHAT PINEDA DID TODAY?????

WE HAVE TO FURTHER TRUST OUR FARM FOR THE REST OF THIS SEASON..... THEY COULD HELP CARRY US, AND GAIN EXPERIENCE WHILE DOING IT....OR THEY CAN FLOP, AND STILL GAIN EXPERIENCE......I THINK IT'S A WIN/WIN......... THE ALTERNATIVE IS PROBABLY SINKING FURTHER, WHILE TINKERING WITH HORRIFYING IDEAS OF MAKING RASH DEALS FOR 'MIDDLE OF THE ROAD' VETERANS.

  8. Absolutely agree with pretty much all you said, All-Caps, but even if we do those two things, and it does improve the team's performance, in order for us to go anywhere beyond the Fabled Selig-birthed Wild-n'-Crazy One-Game Playoff, we would need LOTS more pitching help than just Chance-y (as I'm sure Joey would call him)...we can't count of CC at this point, or Warren, and I'm with the consensus that it's time to say bye-bye to good ol' Ty. Cessa isn't looking too fab, Mikey's a complete head-case, Tanaka's only an ace when he forces himself to concentrate, Sevy needs to trust using his third pitch more, and Green seems to be much better out of the bull-pen...and Montgomery needs to learn to get people out with less pitches, while generating less scary fly-balls....
So I say let's enjoy ourselves rest of this season, come what may, and look forward to a better 2018. Meanwhile, I'll hope I'm wrong, and we can go all the way - - shucks, Headcase Chasely went 3 for 4 today - - I love being wrong on this Yankee team. LB (No J)

  9. So I have a question that needs to be answered. Supper was late last night. But was it worth it, you ask.

Well, first of all, the wine was quite good. This was the first time I tried a Rapaura Springs sauvignon blanc. Most of the time I go for Chilean but this one was palatable.

The main course was grilled spring chicken with a spicy rub, roasted potatoes, green asparagus and Fava beans.
And a small ice-cream as dessert.

Plate service by the way, someone had to watch a baseball game.

  10. So it seems some of you were not really into my avatar.
    Well then.

  11. Thanks for the dinner menu.

Given that the asparagus was green, you must live on ( or adjacent to ) a farm.

    Chicken grilled outdoors?

And what about the requisite cheese course?

Sorry, I am trying to distract myself from the Yankees.

Alphonso had spaghetti with a marinara/shrimp sauce, and a small salad.

    The Yankees had humble pie.
