Yanks Crash & Burn as They Return To Form of 2016

The Yankee SST of the past 6 games sputtered, ran out of fuel, and splattered itself all over the 405 last night.

It reminded me of 2016.

Each player waited for one of the big dogs to go deep, and redeem them from shaky play in the field, a looming pitching disaster, and an inability to score more than two runs.

You could see it coming.

Last season, it was a guarantee.

We scratch out a run, maybe two, on combinations of walks and singles  But in the big moments, nothing happens.  No contact is made with the ball with runs in scoring position.  No one thinks of bunting.  Runners are not advanced into ( or from ) scoring position.

Headley returned to form by refusing to do what got him off to the best start of his career;  to hit, or threaten to hit, the opposite way.  Instead, he just bangs into the shift, where his scorcher is casually fielded in short fight field, and he is thrown out.

When we led 1-0, and when we led 2-1, it was obvious to veteran Yankee watchers that this
was a , " two run limit " game.  Evidence took the form of our "Biggest Dog" watching three straight fastballs crease the fat part of the plate. His bat never left his shoulder. I even started to wish Jacoby was back, if only to provide one day's rest to somebody in our outfield.

It has been a long slog, and fatigue is beginning to set in.

Once the game was tied, I turned it off.  I don't like to watch the Yankees lose., particularly when it is predictable.  When they are impotent.  When they don't even attempt to create anything.  Just everyone swinging for the fences and coming up with air.

Add to that;  we lost a key starter.

So know this:  this team will not win if we don't hit homers.  We cannot win games with two runs, scratched out over 5 innings.

The difference, so far, in 2017, is that the Big Dogs have been running.

Not last night.

Aaron was asleep,  Carter looked like Jesus Montero, and Holliday was on holiday.

We have returned to planet earth.

  1. GIRARDI IS GOING WITH CLIPPARD FOR TOO MANY OUTS!!....CLIPPARD, CLIPPARD, CLIPPARD.
HE REFUSES TO PITCH DELLIN (AND CHAPMAN), MORE THAN 1 INNING, (4 OUTS TOPS), YET WITH CLIPPARD LATELY, HE KEEPS HIM IN FOR 6 OUTS..... CLIPPARD SHOULD BE A 1 INNING GUY, NO MORE...... WHERE WAS WARREN LAST NIGHT?.....WHERE WAS GREEN LAST NIGHT?.....

  2. It was a dismal game to watch, thanks in part to Joey Blue-Binders; hope it doesn't also take a toll on tonight's contest, and turn it into two consecutive fiascoes. LB (No J)

  3. To be fair, can't hang this loss on Headly.

  4. This loss and the loss of Sabathia is Alphonso's fault for trying to praise the signing of Chris Carter. The Carter error led to Sabathia having to stay in longer and get injured. Then Carter goes a step further by popping up with the bases loaded. Alphonso has angered the JuJu God's and there must be a sacrifice to make it right!

  5. You guys are right. I fucked up.

Carter must be gone at the earliest moment.

    Maybe Torreyes can play first.

It does not seem as though Bird will ever be back.

  6. Early this morning I took the liberty to write these words:

"I have no knowledge of the Juju rules. Even thinking about them makes me feel anxious. The anxiousness of the ignorant.
But there has to be a relationship somehow with what transpired right here on these pages and the Carter/Sabathia combination."

At the same time it seems a bit harsh to put all the blame on Alphonso. I mean, who really, really understands Juju.

Well there is one person I can think of, but he is very quiet.
The one person that could shed some light and maybe even show a way out of this situation that might turn into a mess, if we aren't careful.

Really, We gotta get out of this place if its the last thing we ever do
Boy, there's a better life for me and you than watching this get out of hand.

I will be heading to bed in a short while and will be listening to the Master with espressos and croissants in about 6 hours.

Lets bounce back to 7 and 1.
