Big win this afternoon.

Big.

But Dellin Betances is scaring me.

  2. Like the song says, we took it nice and easy. Against a team that seemed to be in a rush to run out and atone for their awful season.

Bird is again the word, and Didi looked better. But Betances...

  3. Thank goodness we picked up Robertson, still swaddling Dellin,,,

  4. The big question is if they're leading in the 8th on Tuesday, does Joe consider the option of not putting Betances in? He's putting him in, no doubt about it, but does the thought cross his mind that he probably shouldn't?

Good Christ - Delicate Betances needs to be sat down and taught some lessons! And Joey Binders has to fucking stop playing the Easter Bunny to him, or we'll be up to our tails in pineapples.

But yup: a great game today, and I didn't even have to get up at 01:00 a.m. to watch it.

Right now I must be careful that my Schadenfreude and Juju don't coincide, as things turned out rather badly the last time that happened (to the tune of 7 runs). BUT: bottom of the 5th and it's Astros: 3/Boston: 0.

Damn: that was the score when I began writing this; it is now 3 to 1.

  6. The Sox score is enraging, my Austrian compadre.

Had Joe G. decided to go with major-league relievers last night, we might well be on the verge of making this a one-game lead, with two to go.

No saying for sure we would have won, of course, and no saying that Boston still would not have clinched it.

But a one-game lead with two to go would have really shaken things up in Beantown, creating untold panic and angst there.

But no, it was much more important to get Jonathan Holder some work.

  7. Red Sox Lose.

Boston Sports radio was petrified of this outcome all afternoon. They know that in what's now a 2-game series against Houston, the Red Sox have no margin for error. They've already begun the discussion about how awful it will be if Sale needs to start on Sunday just to win the game ... if this happens it will completely F'up their playoff rotation.

Yes, it will be close to a miracle if we run the deck and the Red Sox get swept, but we just got closer tonight.

    Holding my breath until tomorrow...

  9. It IS fun, ALL-CAPS! And what a fun season it turned out to be, no matter where it goes from here.

The Joe decision still aggravates, though. Now, even if we tie with Boston and win a playoff, it's almost more of a penalty than a help.

If we win the playoff, we have to start our No. 2 guy in the ALDS, which sort of negates the whole advantage of not playing in the play-in.

If we lose, we have to start him in the play-in game, which gives the Twins a big advantage.

The idiots who run the game should have figured this out before. With the play-in game, a division winner in this situation should be determined by best record, head-to-head. It would always work, as long as we play an uneven number of games, as of now.

But again, what was Joe G. thinking???

If he was going all out for the division, then Gray should have been out before he allowed the grand slam to Ramos, replaced by Kahnle or Robertson. AFTER the slam, it was still only 6-4. But in came the scrubs.

Holder, 24, has pitched 39.1 innings this year, and allowed 45 hits and 8 walks, along with 5 HRs. Shreve, who is 27, pitched 45.1 innings and only allowed 35 hits...but he also walked 25 guys, and surrendered 8 HRs.

Neither of these guys will smell a close game in the playoffs. Neither figures in our future plans. Chances are, both will be traded for pocket lint or simply released during the off-season.

    WHY WERE THEY OUT THERE???

  10. I'm still waiting for Tyler Wade to achieve stardom. And for the Titanic to re-float.

It will be fun if the lead gets trimmed to a single game.

It does appear that Joe is resting guys, toying with the line-up and confident that we will play the Twinkies. In the meantime, there is stress in Boston.

    Houston is carving them up.

    Keep the knives out.

  11. Tyler Wade is not going to fail.

But if he does, we'll call him Mary Tyler Wade.

  12. WELL, IT'S ALL OVER FOR THE DIVISION NOW...

LOOKS LIKE WE WILL MISS IT BY 2 GAMES....

    2 GAMES....

    THINK ABOUT THAT!

WITH ALL THE PINEAPPLE'S, AND ALL THE RAGE, AND ALL THE RIDICULOUS "RESTING" OF PLAYERS, AND ALL THE UNNECESSARY PITCHING CHANGES.....

    2 M@THERFU@KING GAMES!!!

I GUESS WHEN WE BEAT THE TWINS, IT WON'T REALLY MATTER MUCH.

    NOTE TO ALPHONSO: "WHEN"....NOT IF.
