In this day and age, you'd think it would be obvious that a Major League Baseball manager candidate must be able to handle the media with aplomb. And "media" would include "the 'new' media".
Apparently, Aaron Boone didn't get the memo.
My favorite sentence from the article is:
Boone later issued a public apology on Twitter, saying “there are zero excuses” for his comments regarding sexual harassment. He added, “it will never happen again.”I'd like to think that the writer really wanted to write the words I've added in blue:
Boone, who incomprehensibly forgot that he was still in the hunt for the NY Yankees manager position, later issued a public apology on Twitter, saying “there are zero excuses” for his comments regarding sexual harassment. He added, “it will never happen again.”
Scratch another one off the list.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH HIM !?!?!?
ReplyDeleteActually, it was Bret Boone - his brother - who didn't get the memo.
ReplyDeleteYesterday evening Dutch television had an interview with Hensley Meulens. In Dutch, mind you.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.npo.nl/nos-sportjournaal/29-11-2017/POW_03615460 start after 2.40 minutes. The guy before that is the Dutch winner of the Giro d'Italia (cycling) talking about next years race.
Viewing guide:
The moderatorstarts off by saying how special the Yankees are.
Meulens: I think the chances of getting the job are very big. Because of my experience. I was involved with the championships in San Francisco. I bring a winning mentality to the Yankees.
Meulens: I have a great positive energy. I speak 5 languages so communication is a strength and i have experience and know how to win.
Interviewer: that would be something, there are no bigger teams than Barcelona, Real Madrid and the Yankees
Meulens: hahahahaha, sounds great, hahahaha (communicating as a pro here!)
HENS-LEY!! HENS-LEY!! HENS-LEY!! HENS-LEY!!
ReplyDeleteDoes it seem to anyone else that everything around here is suddenly turning very Dutch? The Yankees have one Dutch star, and are thinking of signing another Dutch prospect. Now Meulens.
ReplyDeleteToday I was reading someone on the internet questioning if New York should really continue to be called New York, because the English aristo we were named after—James II, then Duke of York—profited from the slave trade (I'm not making this up.).
So, what will we be called then? Will we revert to New Amsterdam? Will we have to spell our team name, "Jahnkees"? Will Sinatra singing "New York, New York" be replaced by Elvis Costello doing, "New Amsterdam"?
Something's going on here!
Horace.....take a look at what Brooklyn was called, before it was Brooklyn.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would be thrilled never to hear Frank Sinatra again. I used to go to a diner on the east side (for breakfast every day ), and they never stopped playing Frank, as background music to eggs over with home fries and sausage.
Coffee was good but Frank became torture.
Why didn't I pick another diner? Because I am Alphonso.
Torture is in my genes.
By the way. In the off season I move away from baseball, except for this blog as a source of wisdom. So I missed what Boone said. Anyone care to enlighten me? Do I have to walk around in ignorance?
ReplyDeleteSame old. Same old.
Never mind. I finally discovered LBJ's link.
ReplyDeleteAnd really, that's a very nice song by Elvis, sort of whimsical and cryptic, and full of his usual word play. Off the "Get Happy!" album, I think. It would be nice to exit the Stadium to it after a win.
