I Get It. Time To Get On Board

Pretty much all the world ( of Yankee fans ) is thrilled with the latest deal.  The acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton.

Time for me, also, to become positive.  Why not?  It is early.

So I have a few meaningless questions:

1.  Duque - are you happy with the deal because the two prospects we gave up are not highly regarded?

2.  Duque - are you happy with the deal because of who we did not have to give up to make the trade?

3.  LBJ - How does someone with the last name Stanton, get the first name Giancarlo?

4.  Dutch Urban Farmer -  Do they have golden geese in Holland?  Or the Netherlands?

5.  13 bit - If Hal represents the golden goose, which player, exactly, is represented by that egg?

6.  ALL CAPS - Is Stanton really just an expensive replacement for Halliday?

7.  Mustang - We should each are a shot of Grey Goose overtime the new guy goes deep.  Agree?

Have a happy holiday and merry yule.

  1. Fun fact: Giancarlo went by Mike Stanton until 2012. There's your Yankees connection

  2. Giancarlo's mother is African American and just thought the first name was cool...a maddening choice for a young Giancarlo so he used his Irish dad's name "Mike" to avoid being teased.

  3. Damn. I was hoping he was the secret lovechild of Giancarlo Giannini.

Then the Master could have been saying things like, "And there it goes! The Sox are swept away by an unusual blast into the bright blue sky of August!"

    Hmm. Still giddy, I guess.

I thought this article had the best explanation of Stanton's background.

Masked Editor is mostly right, but "Mike" is also one of Stanton's two middle names, in addition to being his father's name.

I will tell you, having read a few biographies of this guy last night and this morning, I am liking this trade more and more. Unlike the Yanks' last trade for the guy with the biggest contract in baseball, Stanton appears to pass the character test with flying colors. His teammates' descriptions of him make him seem more in the Jeter mold than anything else.

I am really looking forward to this.

  5. In response to your question, my original thought was that the egg represents Randy Levine‘s golden nut sack, or maybe his single gigantic testicle, the thing upon which the whole organization rests. Upon further reflection, though, I cannot endorse that, even as an unintentional nightmare. I think that golden egg is a prototype for the trophy that will henceforth be known as “The Golden Tweaked Gonad,” in honor of Duque’s happy phrase. Let us hope that Giancarlo Scranton never wins this trophy. Let us hope that he has the fortitude and resilience of Phil Niekro. He surely will need it, as most of us will be dead by the time this contract ends. He will be a Yankee long after the last iceberg and glacier has melted, long past South Beach’s transformation into an underwater-park, and right about the time that Kim Jong Un’s last grandson arrested his siblings. This contract is so long that I’m going to spend the whole season making jokes about it, along the lines of “your mama“ jokes. “How long is this contract” this contract is so long....you get the idea.

  6. Plus he spent last year walking the earth (pyramids, Barcelona, etc) after the death of Jose Fernandez, seeking enlightenment and perspective. So maybe he has some zen tips?

  7. HOLLIDAY WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER HE DEVELOPED THAT HIMALAYAN FLU OR WHATEVER THE HELL IT WAS.

SO MUCH SO, THAT HE WAS A COMPLETE WASTE FOR A HALF SEASON AND THE ENTIRE PLAYOFFS.

ALL FOR THE BARGAIN PRICE OF $13 MILLION DOLLARS.

STANTON WILL MAKE A TOTAL SALARY OR $25 MILLION IN 2018.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
