" It Was The Match-up We Wanted."

The above quoted response was Aaron Boone's comment when asked,

" Why walk an obviously hurting Donaldson to load the bases, and pitch to Smoke who had already homered and been impossible to get out?"

and,

" Why go for a righty vs. lefty match-up, when traditionally righty vs righty gives a pitcher an advantage?

and,

" Don't opposing managers usually pinch hit in order to achieve, say, a lefty vs righty match-up, often forcing the team in the field to change pitchers?"

and,

" Why would you take all flexibility out of Robertson's hands?  I mean, with first base open he wouldn't be forced to throw a strike on a 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 count."

The truth is:  this is what Boone did :

I'm not sure we are seeing much managing brilliance yet.

Did the owners, and our perfect GM, really think this team was too good to be beaten?  That all we had to do was " show up?'

And that, therefore, all we needed was a charming, glib manager with good baseball credentials, but no experience at any level?

Isn't that like making a really good eater head chef at a top NY Restaurant?

Truthfully, that comment from Boone left me breathless and full of anxiety.

  1. Analytics made the decision not Boone.

Smoak for his career was 1 for 18 on Sundays between the hours of 3 PM and 4:30 PM in the month of April...had to go something like that?

The Yankees have too many quality outfielders to fit into one line-up! They have a fearsome offense that’s going to score 10 runs a game! They have an untouchable bullpen stacked with elite closets!

    April Fools.

  5. Beyond that, the guy I already hate is Sonny Gray.

I could never stand Mike Mussina, for all that people think he should be in the HOF now. It always seemed to me that he tanked whenever anything was expected of him, and early on, I predicted the Yanks would never win as long as he was on the team.

I say the same thing about Gray now. We won't win until we get rid of this guy.

  6. Snake-eyes is precisely correct, Fonz...HOW long are we stuck with this guy for??

Right on with Sonny-Boy, too, Hoss; I can't stand to watch him pitch...and with his slight physique, I fear he's just going to get worse - - unless they give him the first half of the season off, or some such. Again, ugh. LB (No J)

  7. I hope you didn't take my post as a Vive La Binders cry, Joe F...It was definitely not that...though, of the six people the Yanks interviewed for the managerial position, IMHO, they picked the candidate least-likely-to-succeed.

Gray too puny for NY?? YES. LB (No J)
