If you were Aaron Boone, what would you be saying to Giovani Stanton today?
How do you address an MVP who looks like he has never played the game before?
Whose at-bats looked like an amateur who had " given up?"
Who is critical to your success and the most expensive asset you have?
Who has clearly , and in full view, embarrassed himself and failed the team?
Who has already lost the fans?
And any other questions you might have?
Ha-ha! Love the pic, Alphonso!
ReplyDeleteWhat do ya say? You say what managers have said forever: 'Hey, tomorrow's another day, and don't let the primates get you down. They'll be on your side the minute you hit one.'
Or, as an actor friend of mine used to swear that Mickey Rooney would say if anything was going wrong:
"Is it cancer? No? Then what the fuck are you worried about?!"
(It was Judge Hardy's boy who said it, not me. If the JuJu gods give anybody cancer, I disavow all responsibility!)
What I want to know is how come all of the American League pitchers found a pitch he can't deal with (low and outside) but no one in the National League could. Doesn't seem possible.
ReplyDeleteSo what I would say to him is, "So how did you deal with that pitch last year? You might want to try that."
Doug K.
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I SAID THIS?
ReplyDeleteIN HIS 20 YEARS AS GM, HE KEEPS REACHING INTO THE WELL OF THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. (AS IF HE BELIEVES IT IS THE BETTER LEAGUE WITH BETTER PLAYERS- IT ISN'T).
.....AND TIME, AND TIME, AND TIME AGAIN, IT BURNS HIM, AND US.
HE SHOULD OBTAIN GOOD OR GREAT PLAYERS FROM THE AMERICAN LEAGUE ONLY IMO! (ESPECIALLY PITCHERS)....THEY ARE BATTLE TESTED.
NOW WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH SUPERSTAR STANTON AND WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, HIS INABILITY TO HIT A FUCKING SLIDER.....FOR 10 MORE YEARS.
CAN'T CALM DOWN.
Is it possible that Stanton is one of those guys that just can't deal with New York? Not a lot of pressure playing with a crap team down in little Miami with a very small spotlight.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a deer in the headlights of Broadway right now.
Jesus. Between this site and RAB, you’d think that the team plane went down in the Rocky Mountains and the team was feasting on the carcasses of Stanton and Judge.
ReplyDeleteAt last check, the NYY are 5-5 with 152 games to go. Settle down fellas.
Pop a Xanax, smoke a doobie and take a shot or two of Jameson. It’s not even tax day, much less May.
I'm with you Shamus.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any spare xanax?
ReplyDeleteI would say to him: You are now hitting 7th.
I'm with you Shamus, where is the Jameson's?
ReplyDeleteMETS PLAYING FLORIDA NOW... 3 GAMES.
ReplyDeleteTHAT MEANS THEY WILL BE 10 - 1.
10 - 1....
RED SOX ARE 8 - 1.
HELLOOOOOOOOO.....
ANYBODY LISTENING TO MEEEEE?
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....
If I were a younger man, and a bit classier, I'd say "pass the glue sack."
ReplyDeleteInstead, I'll just brush my teeth and say "good night, ladies."
I love you all.
I'm listening ALL-CAPS!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, these games matter, too!
I know, Shamus (love that handle), it's early. But sometimes you just get a feeling about a team.
The 1977-78 teams started slow, too. But they were just such a bunch of bad mothers that you knew they would get up off the canvas and grin. The 1998 team had a horrible, opening West Coast road trip. But that team was still enjoying itself, and enjoying playing for Torre. You knew they'd be back.
This team...
I just don't see it. Beyond the technical flaws, which are legion—Stanton has never seen a slider before? WTF?—they just don't seem very into the game. I'd feel better if somebody broke some water coolers, or at least some bats. Instead, nothing, no emotion.
Why aren't you living up to your analytics?
ReplyDeleteMost people think Jeter is the GM of the Marlins? Does this trade make Derek a shoe in for the HOF as an executive?
Nobody died.
ReplyDeleteYet.
ReplyDeleteYet, Cowgirl.
