The game was over as soon as German gave up the three run dinger. Second inning? Third?
It was clear that the Yankees couldn't hit Verlander.
Our win the day before, already felt like a loss ( we scored all three runs, supported by a solitary single, in our big rally ).
I realized this morning that it already feels like August, late in May:
So I ask why?
Is it the predictable, embarrassing strikeouts of our NL MVP?
Is it our failure to hit with RISP?
Is it the known, unknown that our defense ( measured by errors, wild pitches and passed balls ) is still horrendous?
Is the pitching staff unglued?
Is our managing more like a cocktail party than baseball?
Is it the unshakeable fear that Cashman is going to cave-in, and go for it all this season?
Or is it because, in their greed for headlines and victory now, they disrespected our most respected player?
Right now the games do feel predictable on the negative side but it was just a couple of weeks ago that it seemed like making up a four run deficit was doable. So maybe we need to be patient and recognize that yes going down three zip in the first to a pitcher having a historic season thus far is not going to end well.
ReplyDeleteThat said,
Stanton's contract has a full no trade clause so I can't see finding a partner unless maybe LA. Is it worth doing a salary dump for a couple of AA pitchers just to free up LF for Fraizer and untold millions going forward? I'd do it at this point.

Oh, c'mon, you're exhausting even me. The season is looooooonng ...

ReplyDeleteI'm not upset about losing to Verlander. I'd rather not, but some things are gonna happen. Have to hope they'll figure something out b4 the playoffs.
I was and am upset about going 3-3 vs. Texas and Kansas City. That was/is worrisome. Scary, even.
I was/am quite serious about my solution for getting rid of two major problems with one stone:
ReplyDeleteShould Jacoby Ellsbury ever set foot on a playing field again, put him in a lefty/righty DH-ony platoon with Scranton. Praise their dedication to team and winning to the skies, and talk all the time about how unselfish they both are.
I guarantee, in about two weeks both men's heads will explode, and they will be demanding a trade anywhere.
I know this will not happen for many reasons this season, beginning with, "Jacoby Ellsbury setting foot on a playing field again."
What will happen, though, some years and many hundreds of strikeouts down the road, will be a parting of the ways with Giancarlo that will make the long goodbye of Alex Rodriguez look like a lovefest by comparison.
Can CC make it 6 innings?
ReplyDelete"Should Jacoby Ellsbury ever set foot on a playing field again" That is so precious!
ReplyDeleteCan we please Aaron Hicks on the Next slow boat to China...such a tease just when you think he's about to turn a corner goes on another 0-fer tour.
ReplyDeleteWe need Red thunder....Immediately
As for Ellsbury... May I suggest Hospice???
Preaching to the choir Joe.
ReplyDeleteCC is useless, can't throw more than 85 pitches in a game and often hits that by the 4th inning. He and Sonny are bullpenn killers.
CC is washed up. Just do the honorable thing and go away.
ReplyDeleteOK, guys.
ReplyDeleteScore some runs! As in CROOKED number.
Quite a game! A Houston pineapple.
ReplyDeleteBut Joe F., I quite agree: get Hicks gone, to the bench at least, and get Red Thunder out there.
Why not have Frazier play a bunch of CF, too, just to see if he can do it?
