Spanish Ladies Forced To Stand Down After Yankee Impotence

Many of the exiting features on this blog are triggered by Yankee excellence and failure.

A popular form of support has been the Spanish Yankee-Victory Ladies.

"Hello, my name is Farina and I love the yankees when..."

But they will not sign for an engagement until the Yankees have won enough games in a row to suggest that they are a team with which to be reckoned.  A Spanish Victory lady then appears for each win in the string.  Songs are sung.  Lyres are strummed. Flowers are in the hair.

The Yankees had reached that fulcrum point last night.  A home win against the hapless black sox would have put the gig back on air.  The Spanish victory Ladies were on board and ready to re-appear.  " Let the games begin!"

Reality, sadly, took a big chew on the leg of Yankee prosperity, as the team reverted to their
two run ( home run ) 3 hit flop formula, and all levity, joy and celebration became impossible.

The team on the field couldn't get a big hit, or make a big play.  As I watched, the imagery of the Yankee at-bats was of grossly over-cooked asparagus, draped over a pencil.

The Spanish Ladies have gone back to San Sebastian.

On the beach.  In tasteful, but highly suggestive swim wear.

Drinking coke and wine.

I'm calling Iberia Airlines.  We'll probably lose again tonight, anyway.

  1. Hey, hey, hey! Now just wait a minute here!

We matched every one of those three hits with an error, and if the ladies of Spain don't adore that, I don't know what we can do.

  2. SHITTING THE BED AGAINST THIS WHITE SOX TEAM IS INEXCUSABLE.

2 MORE AGAINST THEM, AND I THINK 4 AGAINST DETROIT.

CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE MORE THAN 2 OUT OF THESE ENTIRE 7 GAMES.

    WE ALREADY LOST 1.

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES WE LOSE JUST 1 MORE OUT OF THE NEXT 6?

    I BET, NO CHANCE.

  3. One single. One one-base hit. Great and thrilling baseball tonight.

  5. Until they string enough wins again for the Spanish ladies to reappear, I'm skipping the coke. I'm just drinking red wine.

  7. Could Greg Bird have a tougher game? He hits it hard three times and gets nothing. Then he hits a blooper that creates a collision. Does the ball pop lose? No it does not. Add the earlier error on a play that is caught 998 out of 1000 times. He is really playing under a cloud. I feel bad for him.

  8. On another happier note, the asshole "mad crane" gave up the tying run for the red flops.

  11. Put the pineapples back in the fridge - a Walker-off HR!

  12. Baby seal clubbing must be done!

This one had pineapple short cake written all over it. Some guy named Nicky Delmonico—the name sounds like something from a bad Frank Capra movie—kept driving in runs. Ma Boone was praising Jonathan Holder to the skies in the postgame for...what, exactly? Turning a 1-0 game into a 4-0 game?

Also, I think we should let Lance Lynn Lance go on his merry way after this season.

  13. Yeah, it was a tough night for Bird. But that now makes him 9-79, and .196 for the season. That just can't continue.

  18. Watching the replay of the Yankees game, which I missed the first time around, I saw Bird's first at-bat.

Yes, it was hard hit, pulled down by a leaping right fielder just in front of the warning track.

But it was, yet again, a ball on the outside corner that of course Bird just had to try to pull. Had he simply taken it to the opposite field, he might have had an easy double. This method of hitting is just so destructive.

  19. CORRECT AGAIN HOSS.

  20. And, Bird's second at-bat was more of the same. The pitch was more out over the plate, but starting to tail outside. He hit it hard, but if it had not been grabbed at first for a line-out double-play, it was going to curve foul.

This is not the way to hit.

  21. If Didi doesn't come back healthy, I don't think they'll leave Bird off the one-game-nightmare roster. Not enough LH hitting on the roster.

But if Didi resumes being Didi......duya think Bird will be omitted? I do.

According to his player stats page at MLB.com, Voit is

hitting an insane .476 in the past 7 games (21 ABs) -- OBP .522

hitting .313 in the last 30 games (48 ABs) -- 4HR, 12RBI in that stretch.

"Splits" accessible on that page show him hitting .450 vs RHP, .235 vs. LHP

    All praise Cashmoney!!!

  22. Aaron Judge participated in baserunning and fielding drills on Monday at Yankee Stadium.

"Just gradually starting to introduce some baseball-type activities," Aaron Boone said. "It feels like, hopefully, he's improving a little bit."

    And Ellsbury?

  23. maybe if the right field wall were further out, it wouldn't be such an all or nothing target and Greg Bird wouldn't be coached into those sorts of swings. . Like I said, our short porch and the New Baseball have spawned a mutant beast that will kill our left handed sluggers. Greg Bird is only the first.

  24. The wrist does not run. It goes long with the legs.

It will heal only when good and ready. No Soaks in oil, no laser treatments, no belly rubs will speed up the progress.

Judge will be ready without any minor league games.

    How ready?

    Not very.

  25. Tacks. Maybe we can tack that chip down with a thumbtack? I'm not a surgeon (or am I?) so I'm sure I wouldn't know.
