No, no, NO, NOOO, NOOOOOOOO!

Repeating for the hard-of-hearing:

No.

I mean it. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO, NO-NO-NO-NO, ABSOLUTELY NO.

NO. And peek-a-boo!

  1. Cano? No way. If we sign him and Machado plus Sanchez we might as well move the franchise to Yonkers because all we'll have are trotters.

  3. The Athletic, which cites sources, reported the Mariners reached out to the Yankees about a deal that would swap two of baseball’s largest contracts. The talks fell apart after the Yankees asked the Mariners to include “significant cash” along with Cano.

The potential swap would’ve landed two of baseball’s dimming stars with a new start to end their careers.

For Cano, the 36-year-old is owed $120 million over the next five seasons. He spent much of 2018 serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. He wouldn’t slot in at second base for the Yankees and the only real possibility would be to make him a first baseman and designated hitter. Cano hit .303 with 10 home runs in 348 plate appearances last year.

The Yankees do not want to commit to one player in their DH spot, according to the report.

Ellsbury has been a disaster in pinstripes since he signed a seven-year, $153 million deal, which includes a full no-trade clause, in 2014. The 35-year-old had hip surgery and missed all of last season. Agent Scott Boras said in October he expects Ellsbury to be ready for spring training. He’s owed $47.2 million over the next two years.

  4. They made this appeal knowing that the Yankees are brain dead stupid, when it comes to their ownership and management.

  5. Probably the only team Ellsbury would waive his no-trade for are the Mariners as he comes from nearby OR close to the WA border. It would be great if some other trade could be worked out aside from Cano.

Look at it this way: If the Yankees can move Ellsbury and his 47.2 million for Cano and they can spin off a trade to a third team where they eat 50 million but get 2 decent prospects, the team is way ahead. They would clear a 40-man roster space, rid themselves of a useless player and gain decent prospects-all for just 2.8 million bucks. Some team would still find good value for Cano at 14 million/yr. Steroids aside, he still is a hitting machine that produces both average and power.

  6. why do the yanks need another lazy player who jogs to first?

  7. I agree, Carl Weitz. But you're talking, again, something way beyond the capability of Brian Cashman.

And the words "we would eat $50 million" are not what Hal Steinbrenner likes to hear. No matter how good the prospects are.
