Could The Yankees Actually Lose Gio Gonzalez?

There is an opt-out clause in the minor league deal Gio signed with the Yankees, giving him the chance to return to free agency if the Yankees don't call him up by Saturday.

Talk about another body blow?

Yesterday, Bird goes down with plantar fasciitis (remember when he was caught " gimping " his way to first, trying to beat out a ground ball?).

 Now, we could lose Gio?

This 33 year old would actually be selling aluminum siding if he weren't left-handed.

If we lose Gio, so goes the season, say I.

My 85 win prediction goes south.

P.S.  I finally got a taker on my $100 bet...some syndicate from Nigeria wants in ( they will take the Yankees, but I have to send $10,000 to an address in Nigeria as " good faith' deposit for the bet. ).

Anyone want a piece?

  1. Yesterday, Bird goes down with plantar fasciitis

Is it contagious? Do you think he caught it from Ellsbury?

  2. How is it possible Gio hasn't already pitched? He sucks. He'd fit right in.

  3. It must be like the measles outbreak, LBJ. He didn't get the vaccine.

  4. You know, the games themselves are depressing enough. Watching players f**k up on the bases, throw baseballs into the outfield, and screwing up in many other ways (did you REALLY mean to swing at a 2-0 pitch and produce a friggin' pop up?).....

On top of what my eyes behold, tho -- coming here is making me feel precisely as I did when I read about "Russiagate" and such.

And: I stopped reading about that shit more than 18 months ago. The media idiots were tripping over their (nonexistent) dicks -- altho Rachel Maddow might have the biggest -- trying to "get" a President who busily gets himself every single day.

Baseball doesn't need to be a reason to get pissed off, mourn, or bewail our fates. Not a one of us has to stay a baseball fan (or a Yankees' fan). Heck, I was born to be a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

    So......

Can we all look on the bright side of this baseball life?

    Yes, Yes, I know --

  5. Sure! I'm actually pretty relaxed about this season, at least—no expectations will do that!—and very much enjoy watching the few young stars we still have ambulatory and productive.

But c'mon, Brooklyn: we're New Yorkers. Complaining IS what we do for fun. I actually complain more when we have a really good team.

And I'm very happy that Mike Ford is finally in the major leagues! (Now watch him screw up the game tonight.)

  6. Oh, on that Nigeria thing: I would say don't do it, unless you get some assurance they are a member of the Nigerian royal family, or have a large bank account you can draw the money from.

  7. Yankee baseball does wind me up pretty good. Can't help it. I frequently skip our innings in the field just because I've come to dread the fact that if anything happens it's probably going to be bad. I know I should probably tighten my girdle, but I'm just telling you how it is.

JoeFOB raises a suggestion I've been toying with: Fan free agency. Best teams in baseball these days are the young, exciting ones that play hard and fast. I might go shopping for a team like that.

Remember three years ago how excited we were about the new youth movement. We were going to watch them mature into All Stars based on their smashing first few months. But somehow, some way somebody or something turned up the pressure on these kids, and they all seem to be pressing. Not pretty. And the team's style of play is still slow and plodding -- just the sort of team that looks lead-footed in the early rounds of the playoffs, which are not at all guaranteed for the Yankees.

  8. Hey the Yanks are up 4-0 in the bottom of the 4th! I just may take that bet. ;) Nah, it's the 5th where they'll surely give up 7 runs.

  9. Who's that guy wearing Chris Sale's uniform?

  10. They're up 7-0, and Tushman hit his first major league Homer. And what's his name is pitching a shutout. Boston is really getting off to a horrible start if we're wiping the floor of the mezzanine rest room with them.

I'm confused, though. How is Mariano playing all the positions? Strange.

  11. JM, I know, right? Pitcher faced 3 batter over the minimum through 8 innings with 12 strikeouts. But I don't think that was Mariano. Pitcher's a lefty. Whitey Ford's reanimated zombie corpse?

  16. Wow, what's with all the negativity around here? You guys are such a downer! Have some faith in that Cashman. Now there's a guy who belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Why, this team looked like a fully loaded Death Star tonight!

  17. Can't remember when I ever saw Sale with so little stuff. If he really can't do better than that this year, they are in trouble.
