Exception to the rule

Gratuitous Duchamp pic having nothing to do with RAB
It's been SOP on IIH not to link to articles on other sites in a post.

This one time, I hope Duque and the juju gods forgive me.

River Ave. Blues is shutting down. I didn't see that one coming.

They've been a mainstay for Yankees news and opinion for 12 years. Now, going, going....

I'd like to think that some of their readers gravitate to IIH, but the two blogs are really apples and oranges (not "origins").

Perhaps they've sometimes been too eager to drink the front office Kool-Aid. But they've always been able to articulate their position clearly, whether I or you or anyone thought they were right or wrong. Besides, as Marcel Duchamp once said, whether art is bad art or good art, it's still art. You don't have to agree with them to appreciate their work.

And so, a fond farewell to the RAB guys, who wrap it up April 29th.

I tip my cap in their general direction.

  1. I think Two things happened with RAB. First, they stopped taking comments because they were getting threats. I suspect that might take some of the fun out of blogging. I believe Mike is also very disappointed with Hal and his penny pinching ways. I can read the distain between the lines.

RIP RAB. You were a good Yankees blog.

  2. I agree it is a pretty big loss. They were my preferred destination for Yankee news and analysis. Way better than anything else out there. (This site fulfills a different need)

My hat's off to them as well. Bummer.

Does anyone have a favorite source for the above? Please don't leave my with just the NY dailies.

  5. That is sad. A nice tribute, JM. And I think KD's analysis is spot on. You have to have comments.

I sometimes check out Pinstriped Alley, which has some fun commenters. But as Dorothy liked to say, there's no place like home.

  6. I agree that Mike became disenchanted with the Yankees executives , especially Hal.

RAB was a great resource and one that will be hard to duplicate. What I don't understand is the threat part. Legitimate threats or the usual harmless lunatic variety? NY Post stopped taking comments a couple of years ago but most commenters there were basically clueless mutants so it didn't really matter.

With as much time and effort Mike and his crew put into RAB, unless another site accepts advertising or gets paid from clicks, it won't be worth anyone's efforts. Unless , of course, an articulate and obsessed Yankee fan wits the Powerball or Megamillions.

  7. Leaving aside the sadness of "the end of something," I will miss RAB for the "bullpen workload" piece -- which updates each night, and (last year, anyway) carries thru the whole seeason.

    See: http://riveraveblues.com/resources/bullpen-workload/

It's useful. For example, you can use it now to see that El Chapo has warmed up in two games and appeared in 4 others. The team has played 7.

During last season, I probably went there 2-3 times a week...

  8. Make no mistake: It is a dark day in the Yankiverse.

  9. CRUSHING LOSS....

IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO FOLLOW OUR MINOR LEAGUE PROSPECTS NOW?

MIKE AXISA DID A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH THAT....

    NOTHING GOOD EVER LASTS....
