Oh Dear God

The New York Times reported today that The Ace, James Paxton, has supposedly been tipping his pitches.

Forget for a moment that "tipping his pitches" is now Yankeespeak for, "has suffered a career-ending injury."

The Ace, James Paxton—who, let us not forget, was called "Pettitte times five" by John Smoltz—went on to say that "he has been somewhat overwhelmed by the outsized expectations—his own."

“I think just getting that under control and realizing it’s the same game. I think I’ve been trying to do too much, trying to be better than what I am. I realized I’m good enough being who I am or who I was in Seattle.”

Asked if had "the stomach" for his first start as a Yankee against the Red Sox, The Ace, James Paxton replied:

“I’m sure I’ll be a little nervous going in, having it be my first experience being a part of this rivalry.”

No problem, because we all remember how Andy "One-Fifth Paxton" Pettitte used to say how nervous he was to be pitching in New York and against the Red Sox.

I'm not sure I have the stomach for this...

  1. Speaking of injuries, check out this PSA update (dated today) of the wounded:

    https://www.pinstripealley.com/2019/4/15/18311646/yankees-injury-update-sanchez-stanton-hicks-andujar-severino-tulowitzki-ellsbury-betances-gregorius

....esp. worth reading is the full paragraph on Betances. Apparently, the team knew he had a bone spur -- YEARS AGO!!! -- and "never told him."

If true, this takes the lies to a new level. Mgmt not only lies to us (the fans), but to the players, too(???)

  2. YOU JUST KNOW BOSTON IS GOING TO BE BANGING BALLS OFF THE MEZZANINE THIS SERIES.

DON'T BE FOOLED HOW THEY LOOK NOW.

WATCH HOW THEY HUSTLE AND WANT IT SO MUCH MORE THAN WE DO.

I DON'T SEE A VICTORY FOR US IN EITHER GAME.

LOOKS LIKE 6 -11 COMING UP.

    GREAT START.

  3. Even if we sweep the Sox, we're still assholes.

  5. Wow, that is really horrifying, Joe FOB!

—Sanchez has "a small tear in his calf"—meaning, I assume, his muscle. No, he will not be back in 10 days. We will be "lucky" if he is back in 2 months. (We will be doubly lucky if he's back in 4 months.)

—Stanton still not sure when he'll be 100 percent, and now he will need rehab games. June? Maybe?

—Hicks is doing "tee and toss"? So are any number of fiver-year-olds right now. They don't know even have a guess on when he'll be back. I think we're talking Ellsbury territory. Good thing we didn't waste a long-term deal on him.

—Andujar, maybe—maybe—a ray of hope. But it could be "season-ending surgery." Which will mean what, afterwards?

    —Tulo? Who cares?

—Betances. I hope he will enjoy the 10 percent of the Yankees he gets when Hal settles the lawsuit. I think we all owe Toonces an apology. I'd be a paranoid head case, too, if I were suffering from a growth on my body that my team pretended wasn't there.

—Sevvy. To quote "The Godfather," "Oh, you ain't gonna see him around here no more."

—Sir Didi. Maybe the brightest note. But still, don't count on him until the second half.

—Ellsbury. Sure. He's started running. If he had been in a plane crash, his progress would be remarkable.

—Monty? A Brian Fontenot career. Too bad.

    —Heller. Meh.
