Wow. We're down by seven runs after the first. Is it going to be one of those series?

It's only a game. It's not life. Nobody dies. It's only a game. It's not life. Nobody dies. It's only a game...

  1. How does this team have the best record in baseball despite having quite possibly the worst rotation outside of Baltimore?

  2. It’s going to get worse...

  4. Tanaka is a just another junkballer now.

    11-2. Ouch.

  5. The Poseidon Adventure is on TCM. Just saying.

  6. The Poseidon Adventure. Wonderfully parodied by Mad Magazine as the Poop Side Down Adventure.

What could be more of a disaster than the Poseidon Adventure? The need innings in the bullpen and there's this guy named "Holder" available.

Don't answer the phone! It's a trap! Don't answer the phone!

  7. Dear HAL, Ma, and Coops,

Please explain to me the reason for leaving our top starter in to give up 12 runs.

Oh, right: one of you cares about nothing but money, one of you is nothing but an idiot, and one of you is shameless bootlicker who just wants to protect his reputation.

Thanks for sorting that out for me. I'll get back to you when we win a World Series again, sometime late in the 2070s...

  8. Only three more field goals and they'll be right back in it.

  9. Why did Boone-io leave poor Tanaka out there for 12 fucking runs?

  10. The last manager we had who I thought was a good actual field manager was Buck. Heresy, I know, but true. He was let go for letting Come stay in the playoff game vs Seattle and that was that. Then Cashman, then Torre, Girardi, now this.

  11. I agree, JM. Although I thought Girardi wasn't awful until the last year or so.

I turned it off as soon as I saw that Tanaka was on the mound for the second inning. But, masochist that I am, I had to check the final score. I knew it was going to be bad, but this is now beyond all logical explanation.

Do I really wanna watch CC and Paxton and whoever else they are putting on the sacrificial mound? I am hereby swearing off baseball - at least the Yankees - through the month of August (text me if there's any reason why I should have a look), and possibly forever.

(I am also swearing off MSNBC and CNN.)

While balls were flying at Fenway, I watched a wonderful film from 1931 on my big screen with my heat-wave-relief fan turned on me. It's bad here, but not as bad as the rest of our neighbors: the Alps sort of divert the worst of it, so while France and Germany were in the 100°s today, we only got to the high 90°s (but it's supposed to get worse till Monday).

So Tschüß, gentlemen, and to the Yankees: gute Besserung! (Ha!)

  14. What was the film, Austria? Few good prints of anything survive from 1931.

I know what you mean, it's really not worth watching, but I will.

The worst thing? Tomorrow I have to go up to Connecticut to spend the weekend with friends who are Red Sox fans. Dyed-in-the-wool Red Sox fans.

And not even obnoxious ones. Which is worse. Not even Ah-ha, in your face, Yankees SUCK! Red Sox fans. Friends who will make sympathetic noises, and remind me that the Yanks are still waaaaaay out in first, and it's a long season...and then sit down at the end of the day and suggest, evilly, "Say, why don't we watch a few innings?"

    Kill me now.
