Lets have Dr. Andrews visit Giancarlo Stanton, and get that leg fixed.
It has been several months now, and he is "resting' to recover from some ailment which could easily be repaired with a bit of clever surgery.
Sure, it would keep Stanton from returning to the line-up, but that has several benefits;
1. His ailment does not improve with rest.
2. As soon as he gets his game back, that leg will again bark.
3. We don't need the reality of watching a $20 million a year guy strike out, and then look up pleadingly to the jumbo-tron to see how it happened.
4. We can all look forward to an off-season of recovery, and a renewed player in 2020 spring training.
5. He can't hurt us if he is in recovery.
6. We have done incredibly well without him.
7. We have done incredibly well without him.
8. See 6 & 7 above.
Hear, hear, Alphonso!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I heard Giancarlo cough the other day, and I could SWEAR it sounded like tuberculosis. I think a six-month, mandatory rest period in upstate New York or maybe New Mexico is in order. Our thoughts and prayers will go with him.
Actually, when I looked up Stanton online the other day, to see how close he was to resuming "baseball activities," I was presented with this:

I mean, these people look like something animatronically designed for a science-fiction movie.
Hey, more power to 'em. I'm sure that bodies like that represent a lot of hard work (even if they also represent the use of PEDs and the occasional surgical procedure).
They are certainly good-looking people—if you like that sort of look. Me, I think it's a little bizarre. But who am I to say?
The thing is, this is not a ballplayer. This a professional...I don't know what he is. Bodybuilder? Celebrity? Auditioning Kardashian?
I dunno.
Think of how much time must go into being this—and how little goes into baseball.
Mickey Mantle, hardly a model for anything, much less responsibility, was a five-skill star who could hit from both sides of the plate, run faster than any man in the game, bunt for a hit, and play a Gold Glove centerfield. Oh yeah, and play 18 years at a HOF level with an unrepaired ACL and a bone disease.
Giancarlo Stanton...is adept at shaving his chest, building a football lineman's neck, and getting himself photographed with models. That's all.
That's another business. Nice work if you can get it. But me, I follow baseball.
I thought the Ellsbury contract would teach Cashman a lesson. You can tell he wasn't playing up to his capabilities in 2018. He has a guaranteed contract and its human nature to feel security no matter what goes down on the field. Its a joke but thankfully the Yankees can continue winning without this interference.
ReplyDeleteKeep him down in the catacombs with Ells, believing the world has ended.
ReplyDeleteOk, Sanchez might have something bto prove and he's out to prove it.
ReplyDeleteRUT ROH! Chance Adams 1-3 Urrgggg
ReplyDeleteI used to point out that "Stanton" rhymes with "Scranton," but I just decided to check my early twentieth-century rhyming dictionary and, wow, was I wrong!
ReplyDeleteThe first entry next to "Stanton" reads "Insignificant Cockwad," which doesn't sound like it rhymes at first, but if you plug it into a strict pentameter, it all kind of works out.

The story, about a romance between an older man and younger woman, is based on the play "They Knew What They Wanted" by Sidney Howard. The show is described by some theater historians and critics as operatic. The original Broadway production ran for 14 months and it has enjoyed several revivals, including one staged by the New York City Opera.

The Broadway theater debut was at the St. James Theatre on 29 March 1993 with 27 previews running through 10 April. ReplyDeleteThis is the trouble with the whole "Big Bullpen" model of Cashman's.
ReplyDeleteWe should be in a commanding position right now, ready to bring this one home with what every sportswriter in New York has called "Maybe the Greatest Bullpen Ever."
But we're not, because essentially, Toronto is able to bring out any number of guys who are also pretty good, and made better by how little we see of them.
Tanaka moved back a day. Yeah, that bodes well.

ReplyDeleteLeMahieu is such a smart hitter, adjusting to those outside pitches to get a sac fly. Almost went out, which was a bummer, but we'll take it.
ReplyDeleteJudge unable to drive 95-mph fastballs, straight and straight down the middle. Admit he's hurt already and put him on the EL!
ReplyDeleteWith his customized Mandalorian armor, deadly weaponry, and silent demeanor, Boba Fett was one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy. A genetic clone of his 'father,' bounty hunter Jango Fett, Boba learned combat and martial skills from a young age.
ReplyDeleteAn Ice Cream Sandwich is a block of ice cream, usually vanilla although other flavors can be used, sandwiched between two rectangular cookie wafers (usually chocolate-flavored), and normally rectangular in shape. The earliest mentions come in 1899. Street vendors in New York previously sold slabs of ice cream between sheets of paper, called "hokey pokeys", until someone had the idea of using cookies instead. Photos from the Jersey Shore circa 1905 show ice cream sandwiches being sold at 1¢ each. A "National Ice Cream Sandwich Day" is set for August 2, and has been celebrated at least since 2005.
