As Iron Man Stanton begins his grueling
11-game season... a few words of poetry from 13bit.
11-game season... a few words of poetry from 13bit.
There once was a lad named Betances
Who suffered from great happenstances
He took a short hop and injured his chop,
Now he's spending the winter in Frances
Who suffered from great happenstances
He took a short hop and injured his chop,
Now he's spending the winter in Frances
The Yankees were taking their glances
At the pitcher who's known as Betances.
When all in a flash, he came down with a crash
Now we're all taking our chances.
At the pitcher who's known as Betances.
When all in a flash, he came down with a crash
Now we're all taking our chances.
I am humbled and honored. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Academy, please allow me to say a few words, but first, I'd like to thank...
ReplyDeleteOkay, enough of that. I was re-reading that woman's Koufax bio last night and was struck - again - by the difference in how pitchers were treated then and now. Yes, there are vast differences in sports medicine and Koufax might have pitched for many more years had he played now, but would they have let him stay out there?
He laid 200 pitches in one game and, as many of you know, he was pitching with a destroyed elbow. He trotted out there every fifth day, sometimes more frequently, and just kept at it.
Why do I mention this? Because, before I just logged in here and saw my doggerel posted in a place of honor, I was having dark thoughts, along the lines of:
©I love CC, but...screw CC....
Anyway, I wish CC the best on this last mile of his victory lap. So far, he has not dropped dead on the mound.
I'm a givin' you the warning' now
ReplyDeleteGet ready
Get ready...
Well, my premonition was wrong. Giancarlo Stanton is going to stride to the plate this inning...
A nice hand, hardly tumultuous...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the idiot home plate umpire, we are told, calls more strikes than anyone else in baseball. He just called a ball a strike. We gotta get of these dicks...
ReplyDelete13bit,
ReplyDeleteNow that you are a famous poet, don't forget us little people.
Wow. Rips a double to the wall. Off a nothing lefty, but still...worked the count to 2-2, took some pitches.
ReplyDeleteOf course, he's probably torn every muscle in his thighs trotting to second base...
Stanton. Two out hit.
ReplyDeleteTHE OTHER WAY!
The world is upside down!
two STRIKE hit.
ReplyDeleteI'm so confused by it all!
Delicate Betances just pulled a muscle hugging CC as he came off the field.
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to get a guy from second to home tonight
ReplyDeleteOh Judge, stop doing that, man. Don't you know everything's cursed?
ReplyDeleteOtto can't throw it 30 feet?????
ReplyDeletethat sucked. I can't watch anymore. The negative inertia is overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteStanton is Marvin from HHGTTG
CC gave up 2 runs in 2.2 innings. Why is he still here? Isn't it better to go out on top? How much have we paid him for each strikeout this season? What if we divided that number by innings pitched. Then we can multiply it by how many urinals are being flushed while he is pitching and come up with something meaningful.
ReplyDeleteThere once was a pitcher named Delllin
ReplyDeleteWhose HOF stats are compellin'
He once was our ace
He's now a disgrace
Because this year he didn't pitch well in.
At 06:52 this morning (my time) the Rays trounced the Dodgers in the 11th inning, winning 8 to 7, after tying them in the 9th, 6 to 6. If things keep going the way they have today, Tampa Bay may grab the AL East and we'll be struggling to get beyond the Bud Selig Memorial Wild Card.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never liked Sabathia. I was actually repulsed - for years - watching him wobble like a Jell-O mold. I hope that was the last we'll see of him, gasping for breath as he climbs the mound. Genug! Basta!
No, they actually can't win. But what a feisty, resilient team! They were down 2 runs in the 9th, one out, nobody on, and they rallied to tie against Jansen (who is not having his best year, but still).
ReplyDeleteI would hate to play them or Oakland in the first round. Cleveland or Minnesota would not be a picnic, either, but I think we would have a much better chance.
