“[Expletive], he’s been out all [expletive] year! How the [expletive] could he be hurt?” Reggie apologized for saying this?

New York Yankees special advisor Reggie Jackson unleashed a foul-mouthed on-air rant against slugger Giancarlo Stanton on Sunday after learning that the highly-paid superstar would sit out Game 2 of the ALCS due to an ailing quad.

Why apologize? He spoke for the Yankiverse. This belongs on a plaque in Monument Park. It should become Stanton's walk-up audio clip. Jay-Z should make it into a song.

Stanton should apologize.

  4. As usual when someone spits out the Truth by mistake, Reggie apologized (!!!). Being right doesn't mean you skip saying you are sorry.

On the topic of being wrong: You probably will enjoy this 3.5-minute video on Aaron Boone's mistakes in Game 2 --

I sure did. Then I cried.

  5. "Let’s hope the drink has been stirred."

If Stanton tries to stir the drink he would sprain his wrist.

  7. Joe FOB: I cannot disagree more with those guys.

To quote Casey Stengel: "Whattaya want me to do, stand around and lose?"

What Boone did was the sort of aggressive managing we've been wanting to see for two years. It almost worked.

That one Jersey noodnick (Full disclosure: I was born in Jersey, I can say that!) kept acting as if Boone should been going by what he WANTED to see, and what Paxton has done (briefly) in the past.

Specifically, he kept talking up Paxton's 10 straight wins in the regular season.

Did he miss Paxton leaving his last regular-season game after 1 inning, with an injury? Did he miss Paxton's extremely shaky, 4 2/3-inning performance against the Twins?

  8. Larry Brown article said it was a faux paux. What's a fucking paux? Is that anything like 'pas' - maybe the plural?

Just looked it up -- it means pal.

    So he's a false friend?

  9. Here is what Paxton did last night:

    Walk
    Double-play
    Liner gloved by Didi
    Single
    Walk
    Line drive out to right
    Run-scoring double
    Strikeout
    Strikeout
    Strikeout
    Single
    Single

Does that performance fill you with confidence? Twelve batters, 3 singles, 1 double, 2 walks, and two hard line drives hit right at people.

Sure, Paxton might have come out of it. Or the next guy might have put the next pitch over the wall. As Sparky Anderson liked to say, anyone can change pitchers AFTER the game is lost.

Boone decided to try to hang in this game, and win it. He almost succeeded. The fact that the bullpen let up 2 runs over 8 2/3 innings of work was not the problem.
